Job summary

Elastic, the Search AI Company, is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team and tackle scale, performance, and resilience, especially in the context of our Serverless offering. You will work on how Elasticsearch nodes communicate, how data is indexed, allocated, and managed across nodes.

You will design, build, and operate core pieces of our next-generation distributed systems stack, push performance and concurrency, own end-to-end

Qualifications

• Experience with distributed systems concepts and consensus algorithms.
• Strong Java proficiency and knowledge of data structures and concurrency.
• Experience building multi-machine distributed systems with end-to-end ownership.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core pieces of the Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
• Improve components for concurrent and consistent indexing across machines.
• Maintain cluster coordination to keep performance with node churn.
• Push limits on shards, nodes, and petabytes.
• Investigate performance and concurrency issues and propose solutions.
• Support the support engineers with complex problems.
• Own operational investigations end-to-end until issues are resolved.
