Job summary

TOPPAN Packaging Americas in Mississauga, ON is seeking a Press Assistant I to support the printing press operations. You will prepare materials, assist with press setup, monitor ink systems, and help ensure safe, efficient production of high-quality flexible packaging.

The role requires following safety policies, maintaining housekeeping, and collaborating with the Press Operator and team to meet production goals. Hands-on, detail-oriented candidates with a mechanical aptitude are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Experience in manufacturing, printing, or machine operation preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on approach.
  • Able to follow written procedures and operating instructions.
  • Good attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all safety policies and PPE usage.
  • Maintain housekeeping and safety standards.
  • Assemble/disassemble press components and set up operations.
  • Monitor ink viscosity and ink levels during production.
  • Blend inks and prepare solvent blends as required.
  • Label, store, and organize ink containers and materials.
  • Load/unload rolls and prepare materials for production.
  • Assist Press Operator with setup, operation, and changeovers.
  • Review job kits and jackets to understand production requirements.
  • Provide cross-functional support and back-up Press Operator if needed.
  • Participate in GPS and continuous improvement initiatives.

Position: Press Assistant ILocation: Mississauga, ONShift: Continental ShiftsPay Rate: $25.66 CAD/hourSummary DescriptionThe Press Assistant I plays a key role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of the printing press by preparing materials, assisting with press setup, maintaining ink systems, and ensuring production runs smoothly. Working closely with the Press Operator, this position helps produce high-quality flexible packaging while maintaining safety, housekeeping, and quality standards throughout the production process.What You'll Be DoingFollow all company safety policies, procedures, and safe manufacturing practices, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).Maintain company housekeeping, health, and safety standards throughout the work area.Assemble and disassemble press components, including pumps, hoses, filters, and related equipment.Monitor and maintain ink viscosity and ink levels during production.Blend inks according to required ratios and prepare solvent blends.Properly label and store all ink containers and production materials.Load and unload rolls from the press and rewind equipment.Prepare raw materials for production and ensure they are staged for upcoming jobs.Set up splices and perform flying splices during production.Prepare cylinders and trolleys for press setup.Perform routine housekeeping and maintenance tasks around the press area.Secure finished rolls for transportation and storage.Prepare doctor blade assemblies for production.Assist the Press Operator with machine setup, operation, and changeovers.Review job kits and job jackets to understand production requirements.Verify materials are processed on the correct surface and according to job specifications.Perform raw material testing as required.Prepare materials for the next production job before the current run is completed.Provide cross-functional support to other team members as needed.Serve as a backup Press Operator when required.Participate in Global Performance System (GPS) activities and continuous improvement initiatives.Perform other duties as assigned.We'd Love to Hear From You IfYou are interested in building a career with a progressive manufacturing company focused on innovation and teamwork.You have previous manufacturing, printing, or machine operation experience (preferred).You have strong mechanical aptitude and enjoy hands-on work.You can safely follow written procedures and operating instructions.You have strong attention to detail and take pride in producing quality work.You work well in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.You are dependable with excellent attendance and a strong work ethic.You communicate effectively and enjoy working as part of a team.You are willing to learn new equipment, processes, and manufacturing systems.You are committed to workplace safety, quality, and continuous improvement.BenefitsAt TOPPAN Packaging Americas, we offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package designed to support overall wellbeing.
