Job description

At Enbridge, we are committed to delivering safe, reliable energy while advancing operational excellence, innovation, and sustainable growth. We are looking for a Senior Power Development Engineer to provide technical leadership and commercial support for power generation development opportunities across North America, including wind, solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and self-power natural gas generation.

In this role, you will help reduce technical risk, optimize project value, and advance opportunities from initial screening through final investment decision, construction, and commercial operation. Working collaboratively across the organization, you will help ensure projects are technically sound, commercially competitive, and aligned with Enbridge's long-term operating requirements.

What You Will Do:
  • Lead technical due diligence and development activities for a portfolio of wind, solar, BESS, and natural gas generation projects, exercising independent technical judgement and technical endorsement of project layout, energy performance, equipment selection, constructability, and operational considerations.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance asset specifications, design standards, and technical requirements while incorporating lessons learned, emerging technologies, and industry best practices.
  • Develop conceptual designs, design basis documents, execution strategies, performance expectations, and technical requirements to advance projects through Enbridge's stage-gate development process.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks while supporting project screening, economic evaluations, business cases, and investment recommendations to improve project economics, reliability, and long-term asset performance.
  • Collaborate with Business Development, Engineering, Major Projects, Supply Chain, and Operations to ensure project designs and execution strategies meet operational, maintenance, health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Support the preparation of technical specifications and scopes of work for engineering, procurement, and construction service providers and provide technical input throughout project development and execution.
  • Build and maintain relationships with developers, engineering consultants, OEMs, EPC contractors, industry associations, and other stakeholders, representing Enbridge at industry events and stakeholder engagements as required.
Who You Are:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in the power sector, with demonstrated success advancing complex projects through development and construction phases.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada, per applicable jurisdiction. If in the US, preference is to have a PE.
  • Experience supporting the development or technical evaluation of wind, solar, BESS, and natural gas projects; experience developing standards and specifications across multiple generation technologies is preferred.
  • Technical expertise in natural gas generation, including self-power and simple-cycle generation, with experience in equipment selection, performance modelling, costing, optimization, and layout design.
  • Experience with gas power plant modelling tools such as Thermoflex or AxsCYCLE, advanced Excel-based analysis would be an asset.
  • Strong problem solver and decision maker who can anticipate project needs, assess scenarios and risks, manage competing priorities, and deliver results in a dynamic environment.
  • Effective communicator and collaborator with experience working across multiple disciplines and presenting project execution plans, technical recommendations, and risk assessments to senior leadership.
  • Demonstrate initiative, innovation, and leadership, with the ability to quickly learn and apply new concepts and contribute to process improvement, documentation standardization, and evolving renewable power industry practices.
Working Conditions:
  • Typical Office environment, requiring the ability to manage multiple priorities and confidential, highly visible work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Travel throughout North America will be required to support project activities, stakeholder engagements, and industry events where you may represent Enbridge and its power development strategy.
