Job summary

Enbridge is seeking an experienced Technical Manager, Renewable Interconnection & Electrical Design to lead utility-scale wind, solar, and energy storage interconnections from early development through investment decisions.

You will guide studies, design concepts, and vendor interactions while ensuring safety, reliability, and cost efficiency. The role requires a PE license in Canada or the US and 8+ years of leadership in power systems.

Qualifications

  • University degree in engineering, preferably electrical.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Canada or the United States.
  • 8+ years of progressive technical leadership experience.
  • Direct experience with utility-scale electrical systems and interconnections.
  • Familiar with North American interconnection processes (ISOs/RTOs).
  • Ability to translate complex technical data into clear recommendations.
  • Strong collaboration and ability to explain complex concepts to senior leaders.
  • Proactive, calm leadership in a fast-paced project environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead interconnection activities with utilities and ISOs from studies to negotiations.
  • Develop high-voltage interconnection designs and cost estimates.
  • Conduct/review power system studies (power flow, short-circuit, arc-flash, protection).
  • Provide technical leadership across internal teams and partners.
  • Support procurement of high-voltage equipment via technical bids.
  • Deliver practical technical recommendations balancing safety, cost and schedule.
  • Track milestones, identify risks, escalate concerns, and optimize design.

What You Will Do:
  • Lead interconnection activities with utilities, Independent System Operators, and Regional Transmission Organizations from initial studies through agreement negotiations.
  • Develop conceptual designs and cost estimates for high-voltage interconnections, substations, collection systems, transmission lines, and related equipment.
  • Conduct or review power system studies, including power flow, short-circuit, arc-flash, protection coordination, and grounding assessments.
  • Provide technical leadership across internal teams, consultants, contractors, equipment suppliers, and other project partners.
  • Support the procurement of high-voltage equipment by developing technical bid packages, evaluating vendor submissions, and optimizing equipment and design solutions.
  • Deliver practical technical recommendations that balance safety, reliability, cost, schedule, operability, and long-term asset performance.
  • Track technical milestones, identify emerging risks, escalates concerns, and pursue opportunities to improve project design and execution.
Who You Are:
  • You hold a university degree in engineering, preferably electrical engineering, and are registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada or the United States.
  • You bring 8 or more years of progressive technical experience, including functional or informal leadership responsibilities.
  • You have direct experience with utility-scale electrical systems, renewable energy interconnections, and high-voltage substation or transmission design.
  • You understand North American interconnection processes and have experience working with Independent System Operators, Regional Transmission Organizations, or utilities.
  • You can assess complex technical information and develop clear recommendations that consider commercial, schedule, safety, and lifecycle requirements.
  • You are a collaborative communicator who can lead effective discussions and explain highly technical concepts to diverse audiences, including senior leaders.
  • You anticipate issues, take initiative to resolve challenges, and provide calm, disciplined leadership in a fast-paced project environment.
Working Conditions:
  • This position may be based in Canada or the United States, with the specific work location to be confirmed.
  • The role is primarily performed in an office environment, with travel to project sites, supplier locations, and Enbridge offices.
  • Travel is expected to average approximately 10% and may increase to as much as 25% during peak project periods.
  • A valid driver’s licence and a satisfactory driving record are required.
  • The role requires sound judgments and timely decision-making while managing changing priorities and complex project requirements.
Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:

Grasping, kneeling, light – moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.

Mental Requirements (Both Field & Office) include but are not limited to:

Ability to: understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, understand complex problems and collaborate/explore alternative solutions, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology, organize and prioritize work schedule on a short-term basis, make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside this area, understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, compose letters, outlines, memoranda and basic reports and communicate with individuals via telephone.

Base Salary:
  • Base salary ranges from $135,180 – $180,000 CAD for Ontario locations based upon candidate’s experience, skills, and internal equity.
  • Base salary ranges from $135,100 – $180,000 USD for US locations based upon candidate’s experience, skills, and internal equity.
  • Applicable compensation policies and guidelines apply to internal candidates.
