As a member of the military, Plumbing and Heating Technicians provide plumbing and heating engineering support to operational units at home and abroad.
The Plumbing and Heating Technician job is one of seven Construction Engineering positions involved in the supply of all construction, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering services in support of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) operations worldwide. The primary responsibilities of the Plumbing and Heating Technician are to:
Plumbing and Heating Technicians often work with environmental challenges. They maintain their skills at home units or on operational assignments. The career offers flexibility: regular force members are assigned to bases after training, with potential relocations, while reserve members serve part-time in their community, with opportunities for deployment.
No previous experience is required. The minimum education is Grade 10 or Secondary 4 in Quebec, including math requirements. Foreign education may be accepted.
Initial training includes Basic Military Qualification at Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, and specialized technical training at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in Gagetown, NB, lasting approximately 22 weeks. Training covers tools, regulations, drawings, brazing, welding, heating, plumbing, gas systems, and more. Opportunities exist for further specialization.
This role is available part-time in the Primary Reserve at various locations. Reserve members serve part-time, often in their community, and may volunteer for deployment or relocation.
