Plant Supervisor

Position Summary:
We are seeking a results-oriented Plant Supervisor to lead operations within our Bending, Rolling, and Custom Fabrication division. This role combines technical oversight, personnel leadership, and strategic execution. The successful candidate will supervise daily shop floor activities, coordinate workflow, promote employee development, and ensure adherence to safety, quality, and customer requirements. You will be the cornerstone between planning and execution, ensuring that our shop floor runs smoothly, efficiently, and safely.
Key Responsibilities:
Manufacturing Operations & Production Oversight
• Oversee daily production activities for bending, rolling, and fabrication processes.
• Review all work order packages, including customer specs, Kubes qualifications, and special requirements.
• Plan, schedule, and assign jobs with appropriate manpower, materials, tools, and workstations.
• Coordinate with Project Management and QA to meet production timelines and expectations.
• Ensure all personnel are working to capacity and assigned work is well-understood and efficiently executed.
• Document and control shop drawings, cut lists, and production files; maintain traceability and revision history.
• Monitor material flow, recommend and implement improvements in jigs, fixtures, handling systems and 5S best practices.
• Oversee proper handling, storage, and dispatch of incoming/outgoing materials with the Material Handler.
• Report on job progress at production meetings and flag issues that may delay deliveries.
• Review employee timecards and ensure accountability for hours charged per job.
Leadership, Supervision & Team Development
• Supervise welders, fitters, operators, and general laborers in a hands-on, lead-by-example fashion.
• Mentor employees, fostering skill growth through one-on-one coaching, cross-training, and ongoing feedback.
• Measure individual performance and conduct continuous feedback with all shop personnel.
• Ensure all new hires are fully oriented in company policies, safety protocols, and quality standards.
• Assign and oversee lead hands while holding them accountable for shift performance and quality.
• Address attendance and conduct issues promptly; issue disciplinary notices when required.
• Ensure proper procedures are followed for all production activities.
• Verify that production records are approved and readily available for every production application.
• Coordinate development and qualifications of new welding procedures where needed.
• Ensure welders retain current CWB certifications and support advancement where applicable.
• Oversee the availability and correct usage of welding consumables, gasses, and filler metals.
• Collaborate with QA during audits and implement corrective actions to maintain certification standards.
• Ensure tooling and equipment maintenance are current.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
• Lead a safety-first culture; ensure work complies with the Ontario Health & Safety Act.
• Conduct safety talks and enforce the use of PPE, safe operating procedures, and machine guarding.
• Ensure all employees are trained in proper use of hand tools, machinery, and emergency procedures.
• Conduct inspections of equipment and facilities; lead housekeeping for the entire shop and yard.
• Ensure all hazardous materials are stored safely; verify MSDS sheets are accessible to all staff.
• Control physical security: prevent unauthorized access to the yard, lock up valuable materials, and ensure environmental compliance across all areas.
• Ensure all fabricated components meet drawings, specifications, and quality assurance standards.
• Support ISO 9001, CWB, and CSA Z299 programs by enforcing adherence and fostering quality ownership.
• Proactively raises quality concerns; coordinate with QA to implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Drive continuous improvement in workflow, productivity, and documentation accuracy.
• Encourage team involvement in process improvement and promote cost-saving ideas.
• Maintain Overall Plant Cleanliness. Ensure all production areas, common spaces, offices, restrooms, storage zones, and exterior grounds remain clean, organized, and presentable always.
• Housekeeping Program Oversight. Develop, implement, and monitor a structured housekeeping program, including scheduled cleaning routines, 5S methodology, and deep-cleaning cycles.
• Daily Inspections and Audits. Conduct routine walkthroughs and cleanliness audits across the facility; identify hazards, clutter, waste, or non-conformance with internal cleanliness standards.

Qualifications:
• Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in a heavy steel fabrication or custom manufacturing environment.
• Expertise in plate rolling, bending, welding, and fitting operations.
• Strong understanding of the OHSA and industrial safety requirements.
• Hands-on leadership style with a commitment to employee development and operational excellence.
• Proven experience in production planning, team supervision, and job costing.
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret fabrication drawings and specifications.
• Familiarity with ERP systems, time-tracking, and production reporting tools.
• Post-secondary education in engineering, skilled trades, or manufacturing (preferred).
• Valid First Aid and Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) certification considered assets.
