Job Title: Plant Maintenance Technician (Ready Mix)
Primary Location: Bedford, Nova Scotia
Reporting To: Operations Manager

Bedford Ready Mix has been in operation since 1985 and is a proud member of OSCO Concrete & Aggregates Limited. In addition to its shared resources with other OSCO Concrete members, the Bedford location also hosts a four-bay repair facility capable of handling the largest OSCO Concrete pumps in the fleet. Thiscollaborationhas made Bedford and its other OSCO Concrete members, one of the largest concrete suppliers in the Halifax Regional Municipality. Bedford performs a mix of residential work along with large-scale industrial/commercial projects. OSCO Concrete also operates a large fleet of concrete pumps, including the largest concrete boom pump east of Montreal.

We have an opening for a Plant Maintenance Technician to join our team in the HRM! This role is responsible for all repairs on plant equipment including the ready-mix plants, concrete reclaimers and conveyors. The maintenance role will be working at several different locations in the Halifax Regional Municipality with some travel to other locations in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze sources of trouble or failures, devise repair methods and proceed with repair work
  • Assemble, install and adjust a variety of bearings, bushings, shafts, gears, and pins
  • Inspect, lubricate and adjust machinery as needed
  • Repair / replace defective parts using hand tools, power tools, cutting torches and welding equipment
  • Rebuild or fabricate parts when necessary
  • Operate power / hand tools and welding equipment (electric or gas)
  • Observe all health, safety and environmental rules and practices while maintaining safe and organized workspaces
  • Additional duties as assigned
  • Conduct site hazard assessments and various other checks

Requirements

  • Five (5) years’ related work experience demonstrating thorough knowledge and abilities for operating, troubleshooting and maintaining plant equipment
  • Mechanically inclined with working knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and boiler systems
  • Knowledge of electrical systems
  • Must be willing and able to work long shifts and extra hours when necessary
  • Basic carpentry, electrical, mechanical, welding, plumbing, plastic or sheet metal fabrication skills
  • Previous experience in a ready mix and/or construction industry would be considered an asset
  • Interest and ability in working both independently and as a team
  • Strong critical thinking / problem-solving skills
  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable transportation

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work in a loud heavy industrial environment, exposed to weather elements
  • Ability to handle routine walking, standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing and lifting / carrying up to 50-pound loads safely
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights
