Job summary

The City of Delta’s Development Department seeks a Planning Technician 1 to support the Development Planning Division on a 12-month temporary basis. The role handles minor land use applications, prepares maps and visuals, and answers public inquiries about zoning and development.

The ideal candidate will be organized, a strong communicator, and capable of working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. A planning-related degree and GIS/visual communications exposure are assets.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Planning or related disciplines.
• Knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, and methods applicable to land use planning and policy development.
• Experience coordinating building and development projects and applications in a local government context.
• Experience reviewing and understanding technical documents such as drawings, plans, technical studies and reports.
• Strong communication skills with experience communicating or engaging with the public, and the ability to explain technical concepts to the public or stakeholders.
• Knowledge of applicable regulations, policies, bylaws, and legislation applicable to land use planning and development in BC and the City of Delta.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
• Several years of experience providing exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

• Review and process minor land use applications including subdivisions, minor rezonings, land use permits and sign permits.
• Prepare plans, maps and other visual communications and graphics to support planning reports.
• Respond to public inquiries related to zoning, land use and related matters.
• Conduct research and data analysis; draft reports and memos; perform related work.
