Job summary

Volker Stevin in Canada is seeking a Pipelayer to safely install underground water, sewer, and storm systems. Reporting to the Foreman, you will direct trenching activities, set pipe to line and grade, and coordinate with equipment operators to ensure accurate, high-quality installations.

You bring 5+ years of underground utilities experience and a valid Class 5 license with a clean abstract; willingness to travel for short-term assignments; and a commitment to safety, teamwork, and career

  • 5+ years of experience installing underground utilities (water, sewer, storm).
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driving record (abstract).
  • Willing to travel and work out of town for short, fixed-term periods.

  • Direct the excavator operator while checking trench depth and grade.
  • Set up, align, and install water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainpipes.
  • Assist with rigging, hoisting, and lowering of pipe, vaults, and structures into place.
  • Prepare trench bottoms, place bedding material, and ensure proper support prior to pipe installation.
  • Check pipe alignment, grade, and placement to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Safely expose and work around live utilities.
  • Use hand and power tools specific to underground utility work.

Reporting to the Foreman, the Pipelayer is responsible for safely and accurately installing underground water, sewer, and storm systems. Working closely with the excavator operator, the Pipelayer directs trench digging activities and ensures trench depth, slope, and bedding meet required specifications. This role involves setting pipe to line and grade, aligning and joining sections, and preparing for safe and efficient backfilling.

  • Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
  • Direct the excavator operator while checking trench depth and grade
  • Set up, align, and install water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainpipes
  • Assist with rigging, hoisting, and lowering of pipe, manholes, catch basins, and concrete structures
  • Prepare trench bottoms, place bedding material, and ensure proper support prior to pipe installation
  • Check pipe alignment, grade, and placement to ensure accuracy and quality
  • Ensure proper bedding before backfilling
  • Safely expose and work around live utilities
  • Use hand and power tools specific to underground utility work
  • Assist with rigging and lowering of pipe, vaults, and structures into place
  • Support general labour tasks as needed in the trenching and pipe installation process
What You Bring
  • 5+ years of experience installing underground utilities (water, sewer, storm)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
  • Willing to travel and work out of town for short, fixed-term periods, as needed

Note: Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing will be required.
