Job summary

CAPSTAN Hauling in Grande Prairie, Alberta is seeking a Picker/Rigger to join our growing logistics team. You will work with picker, winch and bed trucks, guide loads with proper hand signals, test rigging for safety, and install gear for yarding lines across job sites.

Shifts rotate days and nights; you should be able to run 45 tonnes and have solid safety and communication skills. Experience as a Picker and Bed Truck operator is an asset, and a clean drivers abstract is preferred.

Qualifications

• Willingness to work rotating day and night shifts.
• Ability to operate 45 tonnes/swing cab.
• Experience with picker and bed trucks is an asset.
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug/alcohol clearance.
• Strong communication and safety awareness.
• Ability to navigate job sites and adapt to daily scope changes.
• Acceptable driver’s abstract.

Responsibilities

• Work with Picker, Winch and Bed trucks.
• Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, to ensure safety.
• Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
• Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights.
• Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver around obstacles.
• Install ground rigging for yarding lines, attaching chokers to logs.
• Align, level, and anchor machinery.
• Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving.
• Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging and pulling gear.
• Manipulate rigging lines and hoists to move materials.
• Clean and dress machine surfaces and wash equipment as requested.
• Perform pre and post trip inspections on Jack & Slide Equipment.
• Perform pilot operation for oversize loads.
• Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures.
• Operate CAT and John Deere skid steers.
• Load and unload trucks and trailers.
• Perform other duties as required.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Work with Picker, Winch and Bed trucks.
• Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, in order to ensure safety of workers and materials.
• Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
• Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules.
• Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, and/or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques.
• Install ground rigging for yarding lines, attaching chokers to logs and then to the lines.
• Align, level, and anchor machinery.
• Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools.
• Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear, using hand and power tools.
• Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support materials such as heavy equipment, ships, or theatrical sets.
• Clean and dress machine surfaces and component parts. Wash equipment as requested by Supervisor.
• Perform pre and post trip inspections on Jack & Slide Equipment.
• Perform pilot operation for oversize loads.
• Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps.
• Operate CAT and John Deere skid steers.
• Load and unload trucks and trailers.
• Perform other duties as required.

Desired Skills and Experience:

• Availability to work rotational shifts, including days and nights.
• Able to run 45 tonnes/swing cab.
• Previous Picker and Bed Truck experience is considered an asset.

• Experienced in using OHS hand signals for spotting mobile cranes and mobile equipment.

• Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol clearance.
• Solid communication skills.
• Ability to navigate work sites and adapt to daily changes in scopes of work.
• Acceptable drivers abstract.
