Job summary

ENTREC Alberta, part of LAPRAIRIE Group, is hiring a Picker/Rigger to join its Fort McMurray team. The role involves operating picker winch and bed trucks, signaling for hoisting, and rigging loads.

Candidates will work rotational shifts (14/7 or 21/7), must be able to run 45 tonnes swing cab, and pre-employment drug/alcohol clearance is required. Prior picker/bed truck experience is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Experience in picker/rigging roles preferred.
  • Ability to follow hand signals and maintain safety on site.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts (days/nights).
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol clearance required.
  • Valid driver's abstract preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate picker winch and bed trucks.
  • Signal or direct workers during hoisting and moving loads.
  • Test rigging for safety and reliability.
  • Select appropriate gear for loads.
  • Move loads using multi-point suspension techniques.
  • Install and align rigging equipment.
  • Operate CAT and John Deere skid steers.
  • Load and unload trucks and trailers.
  • Perform pre and post trip inspections on equipment.

Job description

ENTREC Alberta, a diversified trucking company (a member of LAPRAIRIE Group of Companies), is currently recruiting for a Picker/Rigger to join its team in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Work with Picker Winch and Bed trucks.
  • Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, in order to ensure safety of workers and materials.
  • Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules.
  • Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, and/or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques.
  • Install ground rigging for yarding lines, attaching chokers to logs and then to the lines.
  • Align, level, and anchor machinery.
  • Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools.
  • Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear, using hand and power tools.
  • Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support materials such as heavy equipment, ships, or theatrical sets.
  • Clean and dress machine surfaces and component parts. Wash equipment as requested by Supervisor.
  • Perform pre and post trip inspections on Jack & Slide Equipment.
  • Perform pilot operation for oversize loads.
  • Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps.
  • Operate CAT and John Deere skid steers.
  • Load and unload trucks and trailers
  • Perform other duties as required
Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Availability to work rotational shifts, including days and nights. Work will be based in Fort McMurray camp and successful candidates will have a choice between 14/7 or 21/7 shifts.
  • Able to run 45 tonnes/swing cab.
  • Previous Picker and Bed Truck experience is considered an asset.
  • Experienced in using OHS hand signals for spotting mobile cranes and mobile equipment.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol clearance.
  • Solid communication skills.
  • Ability to navigate work sites and adapt to daily changes in scopes of work.
  • Acceptable drivers abstract.
