Job description

Physiotherapist (Full-Time) Halifax Regional Municipality
Position Summary

The Physiotherapist (Full-Time) is a key clinical role at our client’s growing clinic. Reporting to the Clinic Owner, the Physiotherapist will assess, diagnose, and treat clients with a variety of physical conditions, including orthopaedic injuries, sports-related injuries, and motor vehicle accident (MVA) rehabilitation needs. The role emphasizes evidence-based, individualized, and client-centered care, with 60-minute initial assessments and a maximum of two clients per hour to ensure high-quality one-on-one treatment. Working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment, the Physiotherapist will contribute to comprehensive rehabilitation plans and optimal client outcomes while upholding the highest standards of professional practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Assessment & Treatment: Assess, evaluate, and diagnose clients’ physical conditions (e.g., musculoskeletal, orthopaedic, sports injuries, post-MVA conditions) and develop appropriate physiotherapy treatment plans.
  • Individualized Care Planning: Implement evidence-based and personalized treatment interventions – including manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, education, and modalities – tailored to each client’s needs and goals.
  • Caseload Management: Manage a clinical caseload efficiently by adhering to the clinic’s one-on-one treatment model. This includes conducting thorough 60-minute initial assessments and scheduling follow-up sessions with no more than two clients per hour (no double-booking), to ensure each client receives focused, high-quality care.
  • Progress Monitoring: Monitor clients’ progress and regularly re-assess their functional status. Adjust treatment plans as necessary to achieve optimal outcomes in pain reduction, mobility, and overall functional improvement.
  • Client Education: Educate clients (and their families or caregivers) about their diagnoses, treatment plans, home exercise programs, and strategies for injury prevention and health maintenance. Ensure clients are engaged in their own care and understand how to safely continue progress between sessions.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with an interprofessional team, including other physiotherapists, massage therapists, acupuncturists, and healthcare professionals. Participate in case conferences or discussions as needed to coordinate holistic client care and share expertise for complex cases.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation for all client interactions. This includes writing assessment findings, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries in accordance with clinic policies and professional standards
  • Continuing Education: Stay up-to-date with advancements in physiotherapy practice and incorporate new evidence-based techniques. Attend workshops, courses, or in-services (utilizing the clinic’s continuing education support) to continually refine skills and maintain competencies.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned by the Clinic Owner to support clinic operations and team success. This may include mentorship of junior staff or students, assisting with community outreach events, or other tasks within the scope of the role.
Qualifications
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Physiotherapy program (minimum Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy).
  • Licensure: Registered (or eligible for registration) and in good standing with the Nova Scotia College of Physiotherapists (NSCP), with a current license to practice physiotherapy in Nova Scotia.
  • Certifications: Current CPR and First Aid certification required. (Professional liability insurance coverage in compliance with NSCP requirements is required upon hire.)
  • Clinical Expertise: Strong clinical assessment and manual therapy skills in musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Competence in treating a diverse caseload of orthopaedic and sports injuries, as well as post-MVA conditions, using evidence-based treatment techniques
  • Experience: Previous experience (1+ years) in an outpatient or private physiotherapy clinic or sports medicine setting is an asset. Experience managing orthopaedic/sports injury cases or MVA rehabilitation is strongly preferred.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with clients, families, and team members. Proven ability to educate and motivate clients regarding their treatment and home care.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time management abilities. Capable of managing a busy schedule without compromising quality of care. Proficiency in maintaining detailed documentation and charting (experience with electronic medical record systems is an asset).
Working Conditions
  • Employment Type & Hours: Full-time position (approximately 40 hours per week) based at our clinic in Hammonds Plains, NS. The schedule is weekdays and weeknights during clinic hours, in order to accommodate client needs.
  • Treatment Model: The clinic operates on a one-on-one treatment model that prioritizes quality of care over volume. Initial assessments are 60 minutes long, and follow-up treatments are scheduled such that a clinician treats a maximum of two clients per hour.
  • Client Caseload: The physiotherapist will treat a mixed caseload of private-pay and insured clients, including orthopaedic rehabilitation patients, athletes with sports-related injuries, and individuals recovering from motor vehicle accidents.
  • Interprofessional Collaboration: As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the physiotherapist will work alongside experienced colleagues such as other physiotherapists, registered massage therapists (RMTs), and acupuncturists.
  • Compensation & Benefits: Our client offers a competitive compensation package, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The physiotherapist is also eligible for paid vacation, paid sick days, paid holidays, educational course reimbursement, all in accordance with clinic policy.
  • Professional Development Perks: Our client strongly values professional growth. The position includes an annual Continuing Education (CE) allowance to support courses, workshops, and certifications that enhance your skills.

Please note that only those candidates who fulfill the requirements will receive a response.
