Job summary

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie, Ontario, seeks a part-time Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist to perform venipuncture, process specimen requests, and communicate procedures with patients. Qualifications

• Minimum one year of recent laboratory experience.
• Phlebotomy collection experience essential.
• Knowledge of medical terminology essential.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection for laboratory procedures.
• Receive and organize requests for blood collection.
• Explain procedures to patients and obtain consent as needed.
• Maintain patient identification and proper labeling of specimens.
• Record collection information on requisitions/labels.
• Assist in inventory and supply control.
• Organize workload among the technical team for efficient lab operation.
• Demonstrate accountability for time, resources and supplies.
• Identify discrepancies and report according to procedures.
• Read and sign off on new/revised procedures and standards.
• Provide feedback to leadership for process improvements.
• Liaise with RVH staff, external labs, and physician offices.
• Participate in training, safety, and quality programs.
