Job summary

LifeLabs LP in Thunder Bay is seeking a Lab Patient Technician to support specimen collection from greeting patients through preparation for transport. The role includes homecare responsibilities and a rotating schedule across multiple sites.

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Good computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm.
• Strong customer/patient service with the ability to relate to patients and clients even in stressful situations.
• Strong empathy, flexibility, adaptability to change, and problem solving skills.
• Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Greet and request required information from patients, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure patients have followed necessary test protocol prior to specimen collection.
• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
• Perform special test collections, such as medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, and complete related documentation.
• Maintain client relationships, including responding to inquiries and following up on requests.
• Complete data entry of required patient demographics, requisition information, and other information related to processing test results.
• Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

Job description

As aLab Patient Technician,you will be responsible for the specimen collection process, from greeting patients through to preparation of specimens for transportation. This is an important role in patient care and our business and will let you see the difference that you make in patients’ lives.

Status: Part Time (Float)
Schedule: Various based on operational needs
Additional requirements: The position operates on a rotating schedule, with shifts available Monday to Friday between 6:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Successful candidates may be scheduled to work at any of the three Thunder Bay locations: 1040 Oliver Road, 1265 Arthur Street, and 194 Court Street. The role also includes Homecare responsibilities, with Homecare shifts scheduled Monday to Friday between 5:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Availability on Tuesdays and Thursdays is required for this position
