Base pay range

CA$32.03/hr - CA$38.91/hr

POSITION SUMMARY

The Pharmacy Department at CHEO operates 24/7. Pharmacy technicians are expected to work day, evening, weekend, and night shifts.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under a pharmacist’s supervision, the Pharmacy Technician:

  • Performs tasks according to NAPRA Standards Practice for Pharmacy Technician from the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP).
  • Updates and follows pharmacy workflow processes based on standards and regulations.
  • Dispenses, verifies, and delivers inpatient and outpatient prescriptions.
  • Manages inventory of pharmaceuticals, including formulary, non-formulary, controlled substances, SAP, and drug studies.
  • Maintains stock of pharmaceuticals and supplies within pharmacy and clinical areas.
  • Reports shortages and maintains stock on wards and clinics.
  • Prioritizes and completes Patients' Medication Histories, highlighting discrepancies.
  • Keeps work areas clean and organized.
  • Maintains equipment and automation, reports issues.
  • Reports product defects and medication errors, completes incident reports.
  • Records pharmacy activities and participates in reporting.
  • Participates in work rotations, including weekends and nights.
  • Engages in meetings, training, and departmental activities.
  • Assists in training new personnel.
  • Contributes to quality assurance activities.
  • Works cooperatively with colleagues, maintaining professional conduct.
  • Provides coverage for Kid Care Pharmacy as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician program (Essential).
  • Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician by the Ontario College of Pharmacists (Essential).
  • At least two years of related experience (Preferred).
  • Maintains competency with equipment and automation (Essential).
  • Maintains sterile and non-sterile certifications annually (Essential).

*Note: The position is represented by OPSEU, based in Ottawa, with possible location changes. Candidates passing pre-screening are guaranteed an interview. The process may include testing.
