As a Regulated Heath Professional under the Regulated Health Professions Act, Pharmacy Technicians will provide services within their scope of practice in collaboration with and under the guidance of Registered Pharmacists.
Duties:
The following essential duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all inclusive:
- Perform all aspects of Pharmacy Technician tasks as defined in the NAPRA Standards Practice for Pharmacy Technician practice from the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
- Operate Meditech, Kroll Pharmacy software, Omnicell XT, OCRA, PacMed, and all systems supporting dispensing and distribution functions.
- Participate in the distribution process and pharmacy support responsibilities.
- Engage in Medication Reconciliation activities.
- Package and deliver pharmaceutical products to patient care units or other facilities as needed; may involve lifting boxes weighing 1–20 lbs.
- Package, prepare, and ensure shipment of products as required.
- Communicate performance and quality standards expectations to teammates (technicians and pharmacy support personnel).
- Ensure proper flow and documentation of prescription distribution at all times.
- Maintain appropriate quality controls and communicate any quality concerns to pharmacy teams and facility partners.
- Use good communication skills and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Follow procedures and guidelines based on pharmacy standards and regulatory requirements.
- Complete daily duties accurately and on time.
- Work in accordance with staff and patient safety practices, policies, and procedures of the Royal.
- Promote a work environment that aligns with the Royal’s Harassment-Free Workplace policy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) is mandatory.
- Previous hospital experience is preferred.
- Experience in pharmaceutical calculations.
- Knowledge of common healthcare terminology.
- Professional attitude, honesty, and dependability.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Attention to detail.
- Customer-service orientation.
- Knowledge of pharmacy law, ethics, conduct related law, privacy, and liability issues within pharmacy settings.
- Successful completion of standard training upon hire, including pharmacy systems and technology.
- Basic inventory management skills related to storage, security, and legal issues.
- English language proficiency at level A- (oral comprehension, expression, reading, and writing); bilingual skills (French/English) are an asset.
