Job description

DUTIES

The Pharmacy Technician, in conjunction with course instructors and other pharmacy practice staff, will have primary responsibility for the day-to-day maintenance and technological operations of the Pharmacy Practice Laboratory (PPL). Duties include preparing and ordering supplies; controlling inventory; setting up labs; coordinating support for pharmacy operations technology (e.g. pharmacy management software such as Kroll, Electronic Health Record); and discussing modifications to the Pharmacy Practice Laboratory. The successful applicant will oversee health and safety compliance for the PPL, including but not limited to weekly emergency eyewash station inspections and logs, medication or compound disposal and sharps containers, and first aid kit supply maintenance. The incumbent will assist with the delivery and instruction of pharmacy practice curricula in consultation with course coordinators and other pharmacy practice staff and faculty, which will include instructing, supervising, grading, and evaluating student performance in applicable Pharmacy courses; assisting with organizing and/or training standardized health professional or patient learning interactions; serving as a standardized health professional or patient during learning scenarios, as needed; coordinating, within course, experiential learning placements with course instructors and using placement software (e.g. CORE Elms platform); assisting in the development of student practice related activities; assisting with accreditation and delivery of continuing education programs related to pharmacy practice; and performing other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience (3-5 years) in pharmacy, preferably including experience in community and/or hospital settings; graduation from a recognized (accredited) Pharmacy Technician Program or equivalent; and current licensure in good standing with the College of Pharmacy of Newfoundland and Labrador is required. The successful candidate should have excellent organizational and time management skills; the ability to multi-task; demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills in English; demonstrated keyboarding and computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel); and experience with practice software (e.g. Kroll). The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, responsible, reliable, and accountable; able to work independently and collaboratively within a team setting; able to establish and maintain effective working relationships; and be an effective problem solver. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain their practice skills through intermittent practice within community or hospital settings. Authorization through CPNL to administer injections would be considered an asset. Previous experience teaching, supervising, or evaluating students is highly desirable.

SALARY

$57,336 - $67,257 per annum (CUPE Local 1615)
