Job summary

University Health Network (UHN) is seeking a Pharmacy Technician for the Outpatient Pharmacy Operations team. The role supports pharmacists, dispenses prescriptions, and maintains blister packaging and inventory across multiple sites in Toronto.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program at an accredited college or recognized equivalent required.
• Registration as a Pharmacy Technician (Part A) in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists required.
• Ability to work under minimal supervision and to manage competing priorities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Two years practical and related experience preferred.
• Previous hospital experience with unit dose system and IV admixture service preferred.
• Ability to learn and troubleshoot changing technologies/machinery.

Responsibilities

• Working with pharmacists to maintain high standards of client relations.
• Assist pharmacists in dispensing prescriptions accurately and efficiently.
• Prepare or compound extemporaneous products under supervision of a pharmacist.
• Maintain Outpatient Pharmacy services operations.
• Handle inventory and manage operations of blister packaging automation.
• Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required.

Position SummaryAs an integral member of the Pharmacy Services Outpatient Pharmacy Operations team, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for the following duties:

Duties

• Working in conjunction with pharmacists in maintaining high standards of client relations
• Assisting pharmacists in accurately and efficiently performing all technical aspects relating to prescription dispensing responsibilities
• Preparing or compounding extemporaneous products using appropriate techniques under supervision of a pharmacist
• Performing activities relating to the maintenance and operation of Outpatient Pharmacy services
• Handling inventory and supplies and managing operations of blister packaging automation: and performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required

Qualifications

• Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program at an accredited college or recognized equivalent required
• Registration as a Pharmacy Technician (Part A) in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists required

• Ability to learn and troubleshoot changing technologies/machinery (e.g. automated blister packaging machine)
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Ability to work variable shifts
• Certificate of competency from the Pharmacy Examination Board of Canada, preferred
• Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team preferred
• Manual billings, out of province billings and specialty medications related billing preferred
• Experience/working knowledge of Delta (Health Watch), Kroll and Point of Sales System preferred
• IV Compounding experience an asset
