Job summary

Carefirst Seniors & Community Services Association in Markham, ON is seeking a Personal Support Worker for our Overnight Stay Program. This permanent, full-time position offers night, morning, and evening shifts in a 24-hour respite care setting.

Locations: 5676 Main Street, Stouffville and 4310 Hwy 7 E, Markham. The role pays $21–$23 hourly and requires a PSW certificate, 2+ years in long-term care or hospital, First Aid & CPR, and a valid police check.

Qualifications

• Graduated from a recognized Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate program.
• At least 2 years' experience in long term care facility/hospital setting.
• Current certification in First Aid & CPR.
• Must be available to work shifts, including overnights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care services in a 24-hour respite care setting, including bathing, grooming, skin care, dressing, toileting, lifts/transfers, mobility assistance, meal support, and medication reminders.
• Assess, intervene and report incidents and changes in client status.
• Ensure the rooms are clean and free from hazards.

Salary Range: $21.00 To $23.00 Hourly

Carefirst Seniors & Community Services Association is a non-profit charitable community services agency established since 1976. Our spectrum of services has grown from the delivery of Chinese meals-on-wheels service to a full range of community support services, covering the whole Greater Toronto Area.

With a staff of more than 550 members (including full-time and part-time staff) and the help of a pool of 850 active volunteers, we serve over 15,000 clients a year, including seniors, adults, youth with physical, social, emotional and health challenges. 3,000 of whom are “home-bound” and frail.

We are currently seeking a Personal Support Worker to fill a new position at our Overnight Stay Program.

Terms: Full Time Permanent / Part Time Permanent

Location: 5676 Main Street, Stouffville / 4310 Hwy 7 E, Markham

Shifts : Night (10:45pm – 9:15am); Morning(8:45am - 4:45pm); Evening (3:00pm - 11:00pm)

Pay range :$21 – $23 hourly (wage enhancement included)

Responsibilities:

• Provide personal care services in a 24-hour respite care setting, including but not limited to bathing, grooming, skin care, dressing, toileting, lifts/transfers, mobility assistance, assisting at meal time, reminder of medication, etc. to meet clients’ needs and requests in a courteous and respectful manner
• Assess, intervene and report incidents and changes in client status
• Ensure the rooms are clean and free from hazards

Requirements:

• Graduated from a recognized Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate program
• At least 2 years' experience in long term care facility/hospital setting
• Current certification in First Aid & CPR, and Food Handling
• Must be available to work shifts, including overnights, weekends, and holidays
• Sensitivity to adults with needs related to aging, physical and mental health
• Ability to perform client transfers and daily living activities; lift up to 50 lbs, bend, stretch, and stand for extended periods of time
• Physically and mentally able to complete the duties of PSW without restrictions
• Possess a caring attitude and excellent interpersonal skills
• Proficiency in English and a second language that reflects the community served, eg. Cantonese, Mandarin, is an asset
• A valid vulnerable sector police record check completed within one year
