Job description

Description

About the Client:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 87-year-old woman living independently in Toronto. She is generally in good health and mobile, but has experienced increasing memory challenges over the past year, including forgetting whether she has taken her daily blood pressure medication. She is a naturally social person who has become isolated after losing friends and her daughter two years ago. She primarily speaks Polish now, though she understands some English. She enjoys watching Polish television and would benefit greatly from companionship in her native language. She lives alone while her daughter works full-time in Oakville and visits weekly.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide friendly companionship and conversation in Polish
  • Prepare nutritious meals and assist with meal planning
  • Perform light housekeeping and tidying
  • Provide medication reminders to ensure she takes her blood pressure medication correctly
  • Accompany her on walks around the neighborhood
  • Engage in activities like board games, cards, or simply spending quality time together
  • Monitor her general wellbeing and report any concerns to the family
What We're Looking For:
  • Fluent Polish speaker who can communicate comfortably in her native language
  • Patient and calm demeanor with experience supporting seniors experiencing memory changes
  • Warm personality who can help combat loneliness and bring positive energy
  • Reliable and consistent - someone who will show up as scheduled
  • Takes initiative when needed and communicates clearly with the family
  • Experience with medication reminders and light meal preparation
  • Understanding of safety considerations for seniors living independently
Schedule:

We are looking for care a few times per week, with visits lasting 2-3 hours each. The ideal schedule would provide consistent support on the same days each week to establish a comfortable routine. Flexibility around the specific days and times can be discussed to find what works best for both the caregiver and the family.

Client's mother is 87 years old, generally in good health and mobile. She has experienced memory changes including forgetting medications (taking double doses). She lives alone and has become increasingly lonely after losing friends and her daughter two years ago. She primarily speaks Polish and watches Polish television. She had a fall last year resulting in a spinal fracture but has recovered. She experiences occasional pain and takes blood pressure medication. Safety monitoring is important due to memory concerns.
