Job summary

Prairie Valley School Division is seeking a permanent part-time Caretaker for Kipling School. The position covers day-to-day building operations, cleaning, and basic maintenance to ensure a safe, clean environment for students and staff. Start date: October 1, 2026.

The role is 5 hours per day, Monday to Friday, with permanent part-time status. Ideal candidates have a Grade 12 diploma, at least 3 years caretaking experience, and WHMIS and Fireman’s Certificate training.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Interest in obtaining or completing WHMIS training; Fireman’s Certificate.
  • Minimum 3 years caretaking experience.
  • Knowledge to monitor and reset boiler and associated HVAC systems.
  • Ability to operate floor cleaning, stripping and waxing equipment and outdoor equipment such as snow blowers and lawnmowers.
  • Ability to perform basic building maintenance and repair functions.
  • Ability to manage confidential material and protect staff and student privacy.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively complete daily, weekly, monthly and annual cleaning, maintenance routines and grounds work as described in the Caretaker Manual.
  • Check HVAC equipment, life safety systems, facilities, grounds and equipment and document findings.
  • Support school events and activities with staff.
  • Maintain supplies of cleaning and paper products.
  • Carry out daily facility security requirements and respond to alarms.
  • Perform minor maintenance and repairs and raise concerns with administrators.
  • Assist in improving building operational efficiency (energy, water, power).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Kipling School offers Pre-Kindergarten to grade 12 programming to an enrolment of approximately 380 students. Kipling is located 162 km southeast of Regina. This is a permanent part-time position that will commence on October 1, 2026.

Role Overview

Under the direction of the school administrator for all day-to-day operations and the Caretaking Manager for all technical components, the caretaker is responsible for providing a safe, clean and healthy environment for students, staff and the public and overseeing day to day building operations, working as part of both the school-specific and Division-wide Facilities teams.

What you will do
  • Proactively and thoroughly completedaily, weekly, monthly and annual cleaning, maintenance routines and grounds work as described in the Caretaker Manual and as required by the Facilities department and/or school-based administrator, meeting established standards.
  • Conductrequired checks of HVAC equipment, Life Safety Systems (including basic visual checks of fire panels), facilities, grounds and equipment and all required documentation independently and accurately.
  • Workcooperatively with the school-based administrator and staff to support school and community events and activities.
  • Maintainadequate supplies of cleaning and paper products.
  • Carry out daily facility security requirements and respondto security alarms.
  • Completeminor maintenance and repairs, both independently and in consultation with Facility Maintenance Technicians, and proactively raiseany building related concerns with the school-based administrator and/or Facilities managers.
  • Assistin working towards the maximum operational efficiency of the building including power, energy and water consumption.
  • Performother duties as may be required or assigned by the school administrator and/or Caretaking Manager.
