Job summary

Prairie Valley School Division is seeking a dedicated bus driver to provide safe, efficient transportation for students to and from school and activities.

You will operate a school bus in varied conditions, applying traffic regulations and classroom strategies for positive student behaviour while working with a supportive team.

Qualifications

  • Must hold and maintain a Saskatchewan Class 1-5 Driver's License.
  • Must hold a valid School Bus Endorsement; training available for non-licensed drivers.
  • Clear driver's abstract with last 5 years details to be submitted with application.
  • Satisfactory medical examinations per The Highway Traffic Act and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and efficient transportation to and from school and school activities.
  • Operate a school bus safely and in accordance with Traffic Acts and handbooks.
  • Apply positive behaviour strategies to manage student conduct.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while on routes.

Job description

Job Purpose: Bus Driver is responsible to provide safe and efficient transportation to and from school and school-related activities, working as part of a team to contribute to the growth and development of children and youth.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to safely and confidently operate a school bus
  • Good working knowledge of The Highway and Transportation Act and The Traffic Safety Act
  • Good working knowledge of the Saskatchewan Driver's Handbook and Saskatchewan Commercial Driver's Handbook
  • Good understanding of, and ability to apply, a range of student behaviour strategies focused on positive reinforcement of desired behaviour
  • Demonstrated patience, maturity and experience working with children
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Qualifications
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Saskatchewan Class 1-5 Driver's License
  • Must hold a valid School Bus Endorsement
    • training is available for non-licensed school bus drivers
  • Clear driver's abstract, with no major infractions
    • A current Driver's Abstract from SGI detailing all (personal and commercial) driving records for the last 5 years must be submitted with your application
    • A copy of the abstract can be:
      • uploaded to your online application
      • emailed to transportation@pvsd.ca
      • faxed to 306-543-1771.
  • Satisfactory medical examinations in accordance with The Highway Traffic Act
  • First Aid Certification or be willing to obtain one at Prairie Valley School Division's expense.
Working Conditions
  • Full time bus routes are paid at daily base rate of $58.63 plus a per km rate calculated at $0.23/km
    • The mileage for this route ispaid at the minimum of 90 kms for a total of $79.33 per day
