Job summary

Coast Hotels Calgary is hiring a People & Culture Manager for Coast Calgary University Area Hotel by APA (160 rooms) and Coast Calgary Downtown Hotel & Suites by APA (120 suites). You will provide human resources leadership at both properties and integrate with a centralized People & Culture team reporting to Coast Hotels Corporate Office in Vancouver, BC.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Human Resources or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPHR Professional designation or equivalent.
  • 5-7 years of related experience, with 2-3 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Proven ability to coach and influence leaders and peers.
  • Advanced communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Office Suite; proficiency with HRIS systems.
  • Knowledge of OH&S, Employment Standards, Human Rights, Labour Relations legislation.
  • Previous hospitality experience is an asset.
  • Excellent problem resolution and conflict resolution skills.
  • Valid driver's license; travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Works with two hotel's leadership teams to create an engaging environment aligned with Coast values.
  • Ensures ambassadors deliver excellent customer service per policies and brand promises.
  • Ensures compliance with OH&S and employment regulations across properties.
  • Connects People & Culture plans with other hotel departments.
  • Maintains big-picture focus while addressing short- and long-term priorities.
  • Is visible and accessible, providing open access to ambassadors.
  • Uses conflict resolution skills to empower ambassadors to resolve issues.
  • Lives Coast values and represents the brand in the community.
  • Provides HR expertise and collaboration within a centralized multi-property model.

Job description

We are hiring a unique dual responsibility human resources position for our 2 Coast Hotels in Calgary. The People & Culture Manager for Coast Calgary University Area Hotel by APA (160 rooms, food & beverage facilities) and Coast Calgary Downtown Hotel & Suites by APA (120 suites) will contribute to the success of the company by providing Human Resources support and leadership at the two properties as well as work as part of a centralized People & Culture team reporting to Coast Hotels Corporate Office in Vancouver, BC.

What you will do:
  • Works with the two hotel's leadership teams to create an environment that is motivating and engaging; proactively manages the development of the culture in alignment with the Coast Hotels values and culture
  • Ensures Ambassadors deliver excellent customer service aligned with company policies and brand promises; works with the hotel's leadership team to remove barriers for delivering exceptional guest experiences
  • Understands relevant legislation and regulations (i.e. OH&S, Employment Standards, Human Rights, Labour Relations) as they apply to the company and ensures compliance
  • Connects P&C plans with other departments and areas of the hotel as appropriate
  • Aware of and understands how all areas of the business interact
  • Attends industry and/or professional events or conferences to maintain industry/professional knowledge and network with industry/professional peers
  • Focuses on short- and long- term priorities, maintaining a big picture perspective
  • Is visible and accessible, providing open access for Ambassadors to build rapport, discuss issues and resolve concerns
  • Uses conflict resolution skills and empowers Ambassadors to resolve issues and identify when to escape them
  • Lives the Coast Hotels Values and reflects the brand in the community; participates in local events, fostering a positive reputation for the company within the local community
  • Provides expertise, support and collaboration within a centralized model of human resources for multi-property needs
  • Other projects as required
What you bring:
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Human Resources or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resource (CPHR) Professional designation or equivalent
  • 5-7 years of related experience, with 2-3 years in a leadership capacity
  • Proven ability to coach and influence Leaders and peers
  • Advanced communication (written, verbal and listening), interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Office Suite; Proficiency with HRIS Systems and various technologies
  • Knowledge of OH&S, Employment Standards, Human Rights, Labour Relations legislation and regulations
  • Previous experience in the hospitality industry an asset
  • Excellent problem resolution skills and conflict resolution skills to resolve issues within a functional area
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information and situations
  • Valid driver's license as there will be some travel required
  • Not content with the status quo; driven to create positive change and growth
