Mission Services of Hamilton is seeking a part-time People, Culture and Communication Assistant in Hamilton, Ontario. The role supports full-cycle HR tasks, documents, and day-to-day admin while upholding confidentiality and policy compliance.

You will assist with recruitment, onboarding, document creation, training coordination, and HRIS maintenance, contributing to an inclusive, compliant work environment and smooth operations.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management or related field.
  • 6+ months experience in a HR-related field; 1–3 years preferred.
  • CHRP designation is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Employment Standards Act 2000 and Ontario Human Rights Code.

Responsibilities

  • Support full-cycle recruitment, including creating job descriptions, postings, offers and onboarding.
  • Maintain employee files and respond to inquiries with confidentiality.
  • Draft and update organizational policies and procedures.
  • Assist with benefits administration, leaves, and return-to-work plans.
  • Input information into the HRIS and coordinate with Finance to keep data accurate.
  • Promote a diverse and inclusive work culture through initiatives.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The People, Culture, Communication (PCC) Assistant will support a range of functions, including full-cycle recruitment, employee skill development, and creation of employee documents, while also managing the administration of day-to-day human resource activities such as organizing and maintaining employee files and responding to employee and management inquiries.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete administrative duties including scanning, sorting, and filing documents and maintaining electronic and paper employee files
  • Adhere to a strict policy of confidentiality, and ensure organizational compliance with internal policies, and relevant legislation including, but not limited to, The Employment Standards Act 2000, The Ontario Human Rights Code, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Support with the full-cycle recruitment process, including creating and updating job descriptions and job postings, preparing offer letters, and onboarding new employees
  • Support with the creation of documents, including employment letters, employee verification letters and acknowledgment of resignation letters
  • Draft and update organizational policies and procedures
  • Support the Human Resources Generalists with the administration of employee benefits plans
  • Support the Human Resources Generalists with employee accommodation requests, leaves, and return to work plans
  • Support the Human Resources Generalists with identifying, organizing and documenting employee training and development
  • Input information into the Human Resources Information System (HRIS), working closely with the Finance Department to ensure all relevant employee information is updated accurately and in a timely manner
  • Support the Department in identifying and addressing health and safety concerns
  • Respond to questions and concerns from management and other employees over the phone, through email and in-person
  • Promote a positive, diverse and inclusive work culture through various projects and initiatives
  • Support the Volunteer Coordinator as needed
  • Assist with employee and volunteer recognition events as needed
  • Uphold the organization’s mission, vision and values
  • Always Follow Mission Services’ workplace health and safety policies and procedures, and identify and follow-up with any health and safety concerns
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preference for post-secondary education in Human Resources Management, or a related field
  • Minimum six (6) months experience working in a Human Resources related field, with a preference for one to three (1-3) years of experience
  • CHRP designation is an asset
  • Knowledge of employment related legislation including The Employment Standards Act 2000, The Ontario Human Rights Code, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act, among others
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Software (Outlook, Excel, Word etc.)
  • Experience working with ADP or another HRIS system is an asset
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to deal professionally with sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to manage competing tasks and deadlines and continually prioritize emerging responsibilities

HOURS OF WORK:

  • Monday to Friday in office

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proof of Negative Two-Step Tuberculosis Skin Test
