Northern Health is seeking a Pediatrician (or two part-time Pediatricians) to join the welcoming medical community of Prince Rupert, a beautiful oceanside city located on the traditional territory of the Ts’msyen Peoples. Responsibilities

• Pediatric consultations and assessments
• Diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic pediatric conditions
• Inpatient care at Prince Rupert Regional Hospital and other Northwest HSDA facilities
• Resuscitation and emergent interventions
• Stabilization and transfers to higher levels of care
• Preventive care and patient/family education
• Collaboration with psychiatry and community mental health teams
• Management of chronic pediatric illness
• Medical record keeping and reporting
• Discharge planning and outpatient follow-up
• Service coordination with hospital teams and community health services
• Telephone consultative advice to physicians and pediatric colleagues
• Participation in multidisciplinary team planning and ongoing care coordination
• Clinical teaching and research activities
• Engagement in prevention and health-promotion activities
• Quality assurance, audits and peer review

Position Details

This position is compensated through an Alternative Payment Plan (APP) contract.

• 1.0 FTE = minimum 1680 hours per year
• On-call compensation is provided via the Medical On‑Call Availability Program (MOCAP).
• Pediatrics office space is located within Prince Rupert Regional Hospital, with overhead limited to clerical support and EMR costs.

Scope of Practice

The Pediatrician(s) will provide the full range of general pediatric services required to support the children and families of Prince Rupert and surrounding coastal communities.

Responsibilities Include

• Pediatric consultations and assessments
• Diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic pediatric conditions
• Inpatient care at Prince Rupert Regional Hospital and, when required, other Northwest HSDA facilities
• Resuscitation and emergent interventions
• Stabilization and coordination of transfers to higher levels of care
• Immediate newborn care or arranging coverage for newborn care as needed
• Preventive care and patient/family education
• Collaboration and referrals to other specialists and allied health professionals
• Pediatric Mental Health assessment and treatment of common pediatric mental health conditions, such as ADHD, Anxiety, and Depression
• Referral and co-management with psychiatry and community mental health teams as appropriate.
• Management of chronic pediatric illness
• Medical record keeping, reporting, and related documentation
• Supporting discharge planning, rehabilitation coordination, and outpatient follow-up
• Service coordination with hospital teams, community health services, and other health‑care providers
• Telephone consultative advice to physicians and pediatric colleagues throughout the Northwest HSDA
• Participation in multidisciplinary team planning and ongoing care coordination
• Clinically related teaching and (where applicable) clinically relevant research activities
• Participation in local and regional health‑care planning for pediatric services
• Engagement in prevention and health‑promotion activities
• Participation in quality assurance, audits, peer review, chart review, and incident reviews
• Collaboration with nurse practitioners and allied health professionals
• Submission of required reports within established timelines

On-Call Responsibilities

• After-hours on-call coverage within professionally recognized limits and following Northern Health’s Medical Staff Rules and Bylaws
• Urgent and emergent pediatric care for patients presenting during and outside clinic hours
• On-call services compensated via MOCAP under a separate arrangement

Compensation Type Fee-for-Service Estimated Remuneration $425,000.00+

Benefits and Incentives

Vacation Leave 6-8 weeks annually, including CME May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including: Retention Premium 24.5% Retention Flat Fee $37,968 Relocation Funding Available $9,000-15,000 Recruitment Incentive $20,000 Other Benefits/Incentives Compensation estimate includes salary, on call stipend (at 1:4), as well as Retention Premium and Retention Flat Fee. Additional benefit: Rural Continuing Medical Education allowance $1,800 to $7,800 per year. Relocation: $15,000 if relocating from outside of Canada: $12,000 if relocating within Canada but outside of BC; $9,000 if relocating within BC.
