Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a Pediatric Nurse for a school-based care role with scheduled shifts. You will care for pediatric patients with varying complexity, travel within the Waterloo Region, and work Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., plus one weekly on-call evening and a weekend on-call rotation.

Qualifications

  • Experience in pediatric care.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Willingness to travel within Waterloo Region.
  • Clinical skills in gastric feeding, tracheostomy and ventilation care preferred.

  • Execute and update care plans as needed.
  • Engage patients with rapport and collaborative care.

This is a replacement vacancy. In this nursing role, as a Pediatric Nurse you will have scheduled shifts to care for patients in a school setting. You will work with patients within pediatric ages with differing complexity of care needs and play a key role in helping patients remain comfortable.

Job Description

This is a Full-Time position, requires travel anywhere within the Waterloo Region.

  • Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • One evening on-call shift per week: 4:30 p.m. - 8:00 a.m.
  • Regular weekend on-call rotation: Friday at 4:30 p.m. - Monday at 8:00 a.m.
  • Care for pediatric patients with varying levels of medical complexity, including palliative care
  • HPC training courses required

What You’ll Do
  • Using appropriate assessment tools/techniques to assess patients’ individualized needs
  • Executing and continuously monitor care plans
  • Engaging patients using a collaborative approach by building rapport and trust
  • Maintaining and update professional patient records related to patient encounters and plans
What You Bring
  • Registration with the CNO as a Nurse in good standing
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required
  • Experience in Pediatric care is mandatory
  • Experience in delivering community care is an asset
  • Clinical skills in gastric feed, tracheostomy, and ventilation care strongly preferred
  • Reliability and flexibility
  • Willingness to travel to and from patient residences within a designated area

  • Required on-call coverage, including after hours to ensure patient safety and to meet patient care needs
