Job summary

Winchesters is seeking an experienced Payroll Lead to join the HR team in Toronto, Ontario. You will own end-to-end payroll across multiple Canadian entities, applying extensive ADP Workforce Now expertise and strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation.

You will manage year-end processes, reconciliations, ROEs, and statutory filings, while maintaining accurate records and providing timely, clear responses to inquiries.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive Canadian payroll experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation including CRA requirements, CPP, EI and income tax.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end payroll processing across multiple entities in Canada.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payment to employees, contractors, and payees.
  • Process salary increases, bonuses and payroll adjustments per instructions.
  • Set up new payrolls and manage closures.
  • Prepare and file statutory documents and remittances (ROEs, taxes).
  • Manage Employer Health Tax (EHT) and benefits administration.
  • Respond to CRA inquiries; maintain payroll records for audits.
  • Prepare payroll journal entries and GL reconciliations.
  • Produce monthly, quarterly and annual payroll reports.
  • Lead quarterly and year-end balancing, including T4s and T4As.
  • Support internal/external audits with accurate payroll information.
  • Administer pension and benefits contributions and maintain records.
  • Respond to payroll inquiries from employees and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with HR to drive payroll process improvements.

Job description

Our client is a well-established organization seeking an experienced Payroll Lead to join their HR team. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned payroll professional who is ready to take greater ownership of the payroll function and continue developing toward a future management-level role.

Working closely with the HR team, the Payroll Lead will take ownership of end-to-end payroll across multiple Canadian entities. The successful candidate will bring extensive hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now, strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, and proven experience managing multiple payroll cycles, year-end processes, reconciliations and statutory requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Own end-to-end payroll processing across multiple Canadian entities, from payroll preparation through to final review and audit of payroll reports.
  • Ensure employees, contractors and other payees are paid accurately and on time.
  • Process salary increases, bonus payments and other payroll adjustments in accordance with approved instructions.
  • Set up new payrolls and manage payroll closures as required.
  • Prepare and process statutory documentation, filings and remittances, including ROEs, income tax requirements and other payroll-related remittances.
  • Manage Employer Health Tax (EHT) and other earnings and deduction administration.
  • Respond to CRA inquiries and maintain accurate payroll records in accordance with statutory and audit requirements.
  • Prepare payroll journal entries and support general ledger reconciliations.
  • Produce monthly, quarterly, annual and ad hoc payroll reporting.
  • Lead quarterly and year-end payroll balancing and reconciliations, including T4s and T4As.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing accurate and well-documented payroll information.
  • Administer pension and benefits contributions and maintain accurate records.
  • Respond to payroll inquiries from employees and internal stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.
  • Partner closely with the HR team and contribute to payroll process improvements.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of progressive Canadian payroll experience.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now is required.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, including CRA requirements, CPP, EI, income tax, ROEs and provincial Employment Standards.
  • Working knowledge of Ontario Employer Health Tax (EHT), pension and benefits administration.
  • Proven experience managing quarterly and year-end payroll processes, including T4s, T4As and reconciliations.
  • Experience supporting internal and external audits and responding to CRA inquiries.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles, payroll journal entries and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a professional corporate environment.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and remain organized during high-volume periods such as year-end.
