As a member of the Human Resources Team, the Payroll & Benefits Specialist oversees the benefits and payroll functions for 500 employees. Partners with Ceridian and ADP payroll services to process, balance, and ensure compliance with HR, Finance, and company policies, procedures, and processes. Understands the confidentiality and sensitivity of the function and maintains ethical business practices.

Responsibilities:
- Process bi-weekly payroll for over 550 employees (hourly/salaried), ensuring accurate and timely payments.
- Manage and organize personnel records for payroll deductions, leaves, transfers, terminations, new hires, salary changes, and adjustments via an automated payroll system.
- Reconcile account balances and ensure compliance with company policies, practices, regulations, and applicable laws.
- Report and communicate discrepancies in payroll information or documentation to ensure accuracy before processing.
- Collaborate with management, employees, and external vendors to provide documentation necessary for financial transactions.
- Verify payroll-related information such as timesheets, direct deposits, benefits, etc., for accuracy.
- Conduct regular payroll and employee file maintenance quarterly.
- Reconcile payroll headcount reports, including new hires, departures, and leaves of absence.
- Coordinate with federal agencies and other external parties to ensure proper payroll deductions and garnishments.
- Facilitate meetings, record minutes, and develop action items related to payroll functions.
- Manage calculations and reporting for WSIB, CPP, benefits, insurance providers, STD, LTD, maternity leave, LOA, and overtime; respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
- Ensure timely completion of all reports and administer employee benefits, including explaining benefits to employees and serving as a liaison with insurance carriers.
- Maintain and update the benefit system for employee changes and new enrollments.
- Support HR policies, employee orientations, and compliance with Employment Standards Legislation.
- Manage and administer the Group RRSP Program.
- Participate in various projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Experience, and Educational Requirements:
- 3-5 years of progressive management experience in Payroll and Benefits.
- Experience with Ceridian Dayforce, ADP Payroll System, HRIS, and SAP is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and customer service skills.
- Knowledge of compensation and payroll legislation.
- Proficient in advanced Excel and Access.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- High level of confidentiality.
- Certified Payroll Professional is required.
Working Conditions:
