Job summary

Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) is seeking a Payroll Assistant to support accurate bi-weekly payroll processing and benefits administration at the head office, 5 Shoreham Drive, Toronto, ON. The role reports to the Payroll unit within Human Resources and requires 1+ year of payroll/benefits experience.

This permanent, full-time position offers a 35-hour work week, competitive pay, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Completion of college diploma in Payroll, Business Commerce, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of payroll and/or benefits related experience.
  • Strong MS Office skills; familiarity with payroll systems and internal processes.

Responsibilities

  • Supports payroll system administration and quality assurance with focus on accuracy.
  • Performs regular payroll data audits and resolves discrepancies.
  • Processes all employee health benefits enrollments, changes and terminations.
  • Communicates benefits changes to the benefits provider.
  • Generates internal and external reports as required.
  • May be assigned additional duties by the Payroll team.

How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:

The Payroll Assistant is responsible for supporting the accurate collection, verification and processing bi-weekly payroll. This role supports benefits administration for the TRCA.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Supports payroll system administration and quality assurance and control with a focus on accuracy
  • Supports data integrity in the payroll system by conducting regular report audits; takes action to identify and address discrepancies
  • Processes all employee group health benefits enrolments, changes and terminations
  • Documents and communicates all employee benefits changes to the benefits provider
  • Administers benefits change reports for internal purposes
  • Provides various reports to internal and external stakeholders
  • Incumbents may also be assigned other duties
What will you need to succeed:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)
  • Completion of college diploma in Payroll, Business Commerce, Accounting, or a related field
Experience
  • 1+ years of payroll and/or benefits related experience
Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies
  • Understanding and application of basic mathematical functions (e.g., adding, subtracting, measuring, money computation)
  • Able to comprehend written documentation and procedural guidelines; skilled in writing clear correspondence (concise, logical, grammatically correct)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with tact and courtesy
  • Demonstrates responsiveness to internal and external customer requests and needs
  • Basic computer proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, WebEx, and SharePoint
