Job summary

Zehr Construction Inc. is seeking a Payroll & Accounting Administrator to deliver accurate, on-time payroll and financial support. The role prioritizes payroll and requires handling unionized payroll, tax remittances, and year-end tasks while collaborating with the Controller.

The successful candidate will support accounts payable and project-based job costing, using Payworks and Sage 300 CRE, with potential growth into project management tasks within our Ontario operations.

Qualifications

• University degree or college diploma in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related discipline.
• At least 3 years combined payroll and accounting experience, preferably in construction.
• Practical understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and payroll compliance requirements.
• Experience with union payroll, including applying collective agreement provisions and processing trust fund remittances; construction trades experience is an asset.
• Experience using payroll and accounting systems; Payworks strongly preferred, and Sage 300 CRE experience is an asset.
• Solid understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles, including journal entries, accounts payable, and account reconciliations.
• Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation, completed, in progress, or nearing completion, is an asset.
• Construction industry knowledge is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll in Payworks for salaried, hourly, and unionized staff.
• Prepare payroll records, reconcile variances and respond to CRA/WSIB inquiries.
• Process accounts payable and manage vendor invoices.
• Allocate labour costs to projects in Sage 300 CRE to support accurate job costing.
• Assist with month-end close and year-end payroll tasks.
