The Patrol Operations Supervisor plays a critical leadership role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Patrol department. This position is responsible for overseeing patrol operations both on-hill and within the Patrol Center, ensuring the highest standards of safety, training, communication, and team performance.
The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills, and is passionate about maintaining a safe and professional mountain environment under the supervision of the Patrol Director. This position requires strong skiing/snowboarding ability and advanced mountain biking ability, as well as the physical capability to operate in a demanding, high-alpine environment in all conditions.

- Training and starting wage: $30.00 –32.00/hour, depending on experience

Key Responsibilities
Dispatch & Patrol Center Operations
- Oversee daily dispatch operations, including training dispatch staff and managing overall dispatch office performance.
- Ensure smooth day-to-day functioning of the Patrol Center.
- Implement and refine efficient communication systems, particularly through effective radio use and etiquette.
- Assist with the screening and onboarding of seasonal staff in collaboration with HR, Patrol Director, and Patrol Operations Manager.
- Maintain WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) compliance and training.
- Act as a contact for the OH&S Manager, ensuring clear communication and compliance during WorkSafe inspections or incident follow-ups.
- Assist Patrol Operations Manager with administrative duties as required.
Field & Team Oversight
- Provide oversight and leadership to pod leaders and their pods in the field.
- Maintain general supervision of on-hill operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and adherence to protocols.
- Monitor hazard marking procedures to ensure proper identification and mitigation of mountain risks.
- Identify and initiate incident investigations when necessary and provide oversight on accident report completion and accuracy.
Training & Development
- Lead the implementation and oversight of training practices for new and existing patrol team members with input from the Patrol Management team.
- Continuously assess current training programs and introduce improvements based on industry standards and internal performance reviews.
Event Support
- Support resort events by coordinating patrol coverage and ensuring safety protocols are in place.
- Assist with on-mountain setup, emergency planning, and event-day operations as needed.
Summer Patrol Oversight
- Provide daily field supervision of Summer Patrol operations during the summer season.
- Ensure bike trails are properly marked, maintained, and assessed for hazards.
- Ensure the hiking network is suitably maintained.
- Coordinate with the trail crew and maintenance teams to address safety concerns and implement trail closures when necessary.
- Support Summer Patrol staff, ensuring alignment with resort safety standards and operational expectations.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Patrol Director and/or Chief Operating Officer to support the effective operation of Big White Ski Resort.
Qualifications
- 80-hour advanced first aid certification (OFA3, NUEC3, WFR, PCP, EMR).
- Minimum 4 years of proven experience in ski patrol operations with strong leadership capabilities.
- Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of dispatch procedures and radio communications.
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills, including experience with scheduling and workforce management systems (UKG preferred).
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training programs.
- WHMIS certification or knowledge of hazardous materials safety practices.
- Ability to assess safety situations and lead incident investigations.
- Skilled in data analysis and reporting.
- Strong skiing and/or snowboarding ability.
