Job summary

Italian Centre Shop South LTD in Edmonton is seeking a Full-Time Pastry Assistant / Baker to join our South Side bakery team. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, learning dough handling, fillings, icings, and decorating while upholding food safety and quality standards.

Ideal candidates may have bakery or food production experience or be enrolled in a Baking Apprenticeship Program; training is provided and growth opportunities exist within the bakery.

Qualifications

• Previous bakery or food production experience is a plus.
• Enrollment in, or completion of, a Baking Apprenticeship is advantageous.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

• Measure, mix, and prepare ingredients according to recipes.
• Learn dough handling techniques including rolling, kneading, shaping, and cutting.
• Prepare fillings, icings, glazes, ganaches, and other components.
• Bake products and monitor quality throughout the process.
• Decorate pastries and desserts and maintain appealing displays.
• Stock displays, assist customers, and follow safety standards.
• Maintain cleanliness and support efficient bakery operations.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Pastry Assistant, you'll gain hands‑on experience in all aspects of bakery production, including:

• Measuring, mixing, and preparing ingredients according to recipes
• Learning dough handling techniques including rolling, kneading, shaping, and cutting
• Preparing fillings, icings, glazes, ganaches, and other specialty components
• Baking products and monitoring quality throughout the process
• Decorating and finishing pastries and desserts
• Stocking and maintaining attractive bakery displays
• Assisting customers with product recommendations and questions
• Following food safety and sanitation standards
• Helping maintain a clean, organized, and efficient bakery environment
• Learning inventory, production, and waste‑control practices
• Contributing ideas and creativity to our bakery team

Schedule

• Full‑Time Position
• Typical shift: 5:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
• Open availability preferred
• Early mornings, weekends, and statutory holidays required

Physical Requirements

This is a hands‑on role that requires:

• Standing and walking for extended periods
• Lifting up to 50 lbs regularly
• Frequent bending, twisting, and reaching
• Working around ovens, mixers, flour, and baking ingredients
• Occasional work in coolers and freezers
