Italian Centre Shop Ltd in Edmonton is seeking a dedicated Pastry Assistant / Baker to join our South Side bakery team. This full-time role offers hands-on experience baking a wide range of pastries in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Previous bakery or food production experience preferred.
• Enrollment in or completion of a Baking Apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities

• Measure, mix, and prepare ingredients according to recipes.
• Handle dough including rolling, kneading, shaping, and cutting.
• Prepare fillings, icings, glazes, and other components.
• Bake products and monitor quality throughout production.
• Decorate pastries and desserts; maintain displays.
• Assist customers with product questions and maintain safety standards.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Pastry Assistant, you'll gain hands-on experience in all aspects of bakery production, including:

• Measuring, mixing, and preparing ingredients according to recipes
• Learning dough handling techniques including rolling, kneading, shaping, and cutting
• Preparing fillings, icings, glazes, ganaches, and other specialty components
• Baking products and monitoring quality throughout the process
• Decorating and finishing pastries and desserts
• Stocking and maintaining attractive bakery displays
• Assisting customers with product recommendations and questions
• Following food safety and sanitation standards
• Helping maintain a clean, organized, and efficient bakery environment
• Learning inventory, production, and waste-control practices
• Contributing ideas and creativity to our bakery team

Experience & Education

Ideal candidates may have:

• Previous bakery or food production experience

• A High School Diploma or GED (preferred)
• A desire to build a long-term career in the baking or pastry industry

Schedule

• Full-Time Position
• Typical shift: 5:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
• Open availability preferred
• Early mornings, weekends, and statutory holidays required

Physical Requirements

This is a hands-on role that requires:

• Standing and walking for extended periods
• Lifting up to 50 lbs regularly
• Frequent bending, twisting, and reaching
• Working around ovens, mixers, flour, and baking ingredients
• Occasional work in coolers and freezers
