Job summary

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is seeking a full-time Educational Assistant (EA/VE 28) to support junior high and high school students at Father Mercredi. The position is 25–31 hours per week with start ASAP and closing Oct 21, 2026.

Qualified candidates have an Educational Assistant certificate or diploma and NVCI training; swimming ability is required for the program. The successful applicant will work under teachers and the multidisciplinary team to promote positive learning outcomes.

Qualifications

• Support students' growth in cognition, communication, physical and social development
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
• Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, CST and other member of the multi-disciplinary team
• Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals
• Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning
• Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies
• Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones
• Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes
• Work and play at student's physical level of their activities
• Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs
• Swim program, able to swim in 50 meters, level 1 and 2
• Successful implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP), if required
• Able to work with students with emotional, behavioural or other disabilities
• Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
• Physical ability to lift and move students
• Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision

Responsibilities
