Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is seeking a term full-time Educational Assistant to support students in grades 1-6 at Ecole St. Paul. The position offers 25–31 hours per week with an ASAP start date, and a closing date of October 14, 2026.

The successful candidate will hold an Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma and may be required to complete SMG training for safe interventions. You will collaborate with teachers and a multi-disciplinary team to implement programs and document student

Qualifications

• Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma is required.
• May require SMG training for safe interventions (similar to NVCI).

Responsabilités

• Support students' growth in cognition, communication, physical and social development.
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming.
• Collaborate with teacher, CST and multi-disciplinary team.
• Complete student or safety documentation as directed by supervisor.
• Implement specialist strategies (OT, PT, SLP, etc) to achieve goals.
• Apply behaviour management and educational strategies to facilitate learning.
• Communicate effectively with students using age-appropriate reinforcement.
• Observe and respond to student behaviours to achieve positive outcomes.
• Provide structure to help complete learning outcomes.
• Work with students at their physical activity level.
• Use adaptive/learning technologies and communication aids.
• Follow the Positive Behaviour Plan as required.
• Perform medical procedures as needed (catheter, feeding, toileting, etc).
• Understand and support modified curriculum, including autism/medical needs.
• Physically assist with lifting/transfers when necessary.
• Provide supervision indoors/outdoors as directed.
• Adhere to health and safety requirements.

• Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning
• Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies
• Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones
• Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes
• Work and play at student's physical level of their activities
• Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs, including for speech and non-verbal communication
• Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP), if required
• Medical Procedures – including, but not limited to, Catheter, Tube feeding, Feeding and swallowing support, toileting routines or diabetic monitoring may be required
• Able to understand, implement and support modified curriculum
• Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs
• Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
• Physical ability to lift and move students
• Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision
• Follow all relevant health and safety requirements as directed by supervisor

Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning and speech & language-related disabilities, etc may be encountered.
