Job summary

Irving Shipbuilding in Nova Scotia is seeking a Paint Planner to coordinate coating specifications from stripe coat through final finish, ensuring QA, inspections, and scheduling align with project milestones.

The role requires collaboration with production, quality, and inspection teams, a technical degree, and experience in planning within naval environments. This is a full-time, in-office position with opportunities to contribute to safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in a technical/engineering discipline.
  • Trade Certificate or Red Seal designation (asset).
  • 2–5 years of planning or trade experience, preferably naval shipbuilding.
  • Ability to interpret trade-related drawings.
  • Familiarity with Primavera P6, MS Excel, Aveva, or AutoCAD is an asset.
  • Lean/Six Sigma certifications (White, Yellow, or Green Belt) are assets.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret contract documentation and technical drawings to define scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Create high-quality job packs that enable efficient execution of work.
  • Ensure accurate activity breakdowns, logical sequencing, and resource budgeting in Primavera P6.
  • Identify and report material stock discrepancies, collaborating with Scheduling, Planning, Project Management, and Supply Chain teams.
  • Providing trade-specific support to Planning and Production teams.
  • Maintain tracking tools to support production scheduling and progress monitoring.

Job Description

The Paint Planner is responsible for understanding and coordinating all paint specifications throughout the construction lifecycle, from stripe coating through to final coat application. This role ensures all coating requirements, inspection and testing hold points, and quality control activities are accurately incorporated into the schedule.

By integrating paint activities into detailed construction plans, the Paint Planner supports efficient sequencing of work, minimizes delays, and enables painting operations to be executed safely, effectively, and in alignment with project milestones. The role requires close collaboration with production, quality, and inspection teams to ensure coating work is planned and completed in accordance with technical specifications and project requirements.

Responsibilities

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.
