Job summary

Irving Shipbuilding is seeking an Accuracy Control Specialist to ensure dimensional accuracy throughout shipbuilding, analyzing data, supporting field metrology, and collaborating with production teams to meet design requirements and shipbuilding standards.

You will use Total Stations, Laser Scanners, and Laser Trackers to verify measurements, interpret drawings and 3D models, and drive continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with accuracy plans and ITP tolerances.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Geomatics, Engineering, or a related field; or Red Seal Trade certification with 3+ years of shipbuilding experience.
  • 2+ years of experience as a Dimensional Control Surveyor in an industrial environment.
  • Proficiency with metrology equipment (Total Stations, Laser Scanners, Laser Trackers) and SpatialAnalyzer for data processing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-field dimensional control support and technical guidance during unit, block, and mega block assembly activities to ensure compliance with design requirements and minimize downstream rework.
  • Analyze Accuracy Control data and measurement results to assess dimensional performance, identify trends, evaluate process capability, and produce reports that support production decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support complex and special installations by performing measurement verification, providing technical recommendations, and ensuring ITP tolerances are achieved on the first attempt.
  • Utilize metrology equipment, including Total Stations, Laser Scanners, and Laser Trackers, to perform precision measurement, alignment, and verification activities throughout the shipbuilding process.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to identify dimensional risks, troubleshoot accuracy-related issues, and implement corrective actions to maintain schedule, quality, and customer requirements.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and 3D models to validate dimensional compliance and support efficient construction and assembly activities.

As an Accuracy Control Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring dimensional accuracy throughout the shipbuilding process by analyzing and reporting Accuracy Control data, supporting field metrology and dimensional surveying activities, and collaborating closely with production teams. Working in accordance with the Accuracy Control Plan, you will help identify and mitigate dimensional risks, drive continuous improvement, and ensure first-time-right results, contributing to the delivery of high-quality products that meet customer requirements and shipbuilding standards.

  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively across production, engineering, and quality teams.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly.

  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders.


Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).


Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.
