Job summary

The Salvation Army Canada and Bermuda Territory is seeking an Overnight Shelter Support Worker (Casual) for the Centre of Hope in Port Hardy, BC. This role ensures a safe, secure environment during night hours, supports guests emotionally, and handles crisis interventions as needed.

You will read notes, maintain logs, assist with intake, monitor activities, and help with meals and cleaning while upholding dignity and respect for all residents.

Qualifications

• Completed grade 12 high school diploma.
• Completion of a formal post-secondary/college diploma program of 1-2 academic years in a related field is a strong asset.
• Basic First Aid or willingness to obtain.
• Food Safe Level 1 or willingness to obtain.
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Serves as The Salvation Army’s representative to Shelter Guests and Visitors.
• Records day-to-day happenings and maintains logbooks.
• Liaises with external agencies as needed.
• Manages admission, orientation and enforcement of shelter rules.
• May act as Receptionist for Shelter.
• Monitors guests and provides support; may record medications.
