Job summary

Day & Ross in Surrey, BC is seeking a Dock Lead Hand for an overnight shift (Sunday–Thursday, 8pm start). You will lead dock staff to ensure safe, efficient loading and unloading, plan vehicle movements, and handle claims with a focus on service and cost targets.

Key responsibilities include supervising dock operations, coaching team members, maintaining records, and coordinating with management. Requires forklift certification, TDG/WHMIS training, and strong communication.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of secondary education, with preference for post-secondary education or an education/experience mix.
  • Forklift certified
  • Trained in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods
  • WHMIS certified
  • Previous Transportation or operational experience is preferred
  • Communication skills - advanced
  • Computer skills – MS Office, AS400, web-based programs
  • Demonstrated customer relationship skills
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a high transactional environment
  • Ability to champion business needs collaboratively
  • English or other languages an asset
  • Able to work with little supervision

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment in keeping with legislation, policies and procedures, ensuring safety and efficiency to minimize risks.
  • Load and unload cargo
  • Report incidents to supervisor
  • Ensure proper use of protective gear and safe operation of machinery
  • Report performance and attendance issues to supervisor
  • Coach team members on dock procedures and equipment operation
  • Maintain records and documents
  • Assist in training workers on equipment and safety policies
  • Communicate issues to supervision and management
  • Assist as needed with other duties
  • Provide basic leadership to dock workers
  • Relay information from Operations Manager to Dock Workers and keep updated
