Toronto Metropolitan University seeks an Organizational Design Consultant to translate strategic goals into effective structures and operating models. You will shape large-scale transformation initiatives by collaborating with senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
Through organizational analysis, design modeling, workforce planning, and detailed implementation planning, you will help TMU navigate change and align capabilities with priorities for a sustainable future.
For more than 75 years, Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson University) has been shaping the next generation of leaders through its uniquely innovative, entrepreneurial and career-focused approach to higher education. Driven by bold leadership, cutting-edge research and a deep commitment to academic excellence, TMU collaborates with students, faculties, staff and partners to push boundaries, reimagine solutions and create meaningful change in an increasingly interconnected world.
For a more in-depth understanding of our vision, core values and ongoing work, please see our academic plan. TMU welcomes those who have demonstrated a commitment to upholding the values of equity, diversity, and inclusion and will assist us in realizing the benefits of embedding these values into the work at every level and in every unit of the university. In addition, to correct the conditions of disadvantage in employment in Canada and to bring lived experiences to the work, we encourage applications from members of equity deserving groups that have been historically disadvantaged and marginalized, including First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples in Canada, First Nations Peoples in the United States, racialized people, Black people, persons with disabilities, women, and 2SLGBTQ+ people. Preference will be given to candidates with lived experiences as people from equity deserving groups, as well as experience working with these communities with which the University works every day. The Organizational Effectiveness team builds TMU’s organizational design capability and enables complex, enterprise-level transformation through a structured, collaborative and people-centred approach. Working in close partnership with leaders and cross-functional HR teams, we bring together organizational design, project and change management expertise to help align people, roles, operating models and service delivery with the University’s evolving priorities. Our work is grounded in consistent methodology, strong governance and practical solutions, and includes some of TMU’s largest and most complex transformation initiatives.
As an Organizational Design Consultant, you'll help translate TMU's strategic vision into the structures, operating models, and ways of working that enable the University to achieve its strategic goals. Working on large-scale organizational design and transformation initiatives, you'll help shape how people, work, and resources come together to support TMU's evolving priorities and future direction.
Working closely with the Project Director, Transformation & Organizational Effectiveness and senior leaders across the University, you'll bring analytical rigour, curiosity, and an organizational design lens to complex institutional challenges. You'll assess current-state structures and ways of working, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop future-state models that align organizational capabilities with strategic priorities.
You’ll play an important role in turning executive vision into practical organizational solutions. Through organizational analysis, design modelling, workforce planning, and implementation planning, you'll help leaders understand the implications of different approaches and make informed decisions about how their organizations can operate more effectively.
You’ll also help guide the transition from today's organization to tomorrow's. Applying organizational design, change management, and project management practices, you'll support implementation planning, stakeholder engagement, and the development of practical approaches that enable people and teams to navigate organizational change successfully.
Working across organizational boundaries, you'll collaborate with leaders, HR colleagues, and diverse stakeholders to ensure transformation initiatives are thoughtful, evidence-informed, and aligned with TMU's broader HR transformation agenda. You'll help establish structures and approaches that are not only effective today, but scalable and sustainable for the University's future.
This is an opportunity to help shape the organization behind the strategy. Your work will help turn ambitious ideas from TMU's leaders into organizational structures, operating models, and ways of working that make those ambitions possible.
If you're energized by complex organizational challenges, enjoy moving between strategy and detailed analysis, and are motivated by helping organizations become more effective, adaptable, and future-ready, this is an opportunity to play a meaningful role in TMU's transformation journey.
