Job description

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the position is responsible for managing the operational performance and execution of the warehouse staff on the Afternoon Shift from 3PM to 11PM, Monday to Friday.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conducts operational analysis of the receiving, order-filling, and shipping functions to ensure efficiency and effective coordination between the functions. Identifies improvement opportunities and submits recommendations to maximize current operations or plan for operational changes.
  • Collects, reviews, and analyzes operational information [key performance indicators (KPI’s), TPR, budget reports, operational expenditures and other controls] on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Works with Ops Managers and other Supervisors to define, coordinate, and develop solutions for department or area specific requirements and problems.
  • In coordination with Manger Operations, researches new operations processes in terms of the capital and human resources required. Develops equipment layout, work process and/or technology utilization specifications that meet output requirements to maximize material logistics processes.
  • Identifies and manages priorities to ensure customer expectations are met and exceeded. Participates in and may delegate or manage responsibilities of special projects or task forces.
  • Provides ongoing support, coaching and development of, Coordinators and floor associates to ensure required performance objectives are attained,
  • Leads the shift occupational health and safety program by direct involvement and leadership, including setting targets, and training and guidance of subordinates. Also ensuring that all concerns are resolved and communicated effectively in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that employees receive appropriate instruction and guidance to conform to all legislative and regulatory requirements including mechanical handling equipment (MHE) competence.
  • Champions the smooth flow of communication between operations and the support functions in order to create consistency and clarity of direction on operational projects and priorities and awareness of support function requirements.
  • Manages labour forecasting, planning and workload scheduling.
  • Proactively researching and working to client policies and procedures, and offering competitive advantage suggestions.
  • Providing customer service direction to the work group.
  • Promoting a favourable labour and employee relations climate.
  • Consults with peers, direct reports and associates and other sites in order to share information and best practices.
  • Be familiar and ensure compliance with the Ontario Health and Safety Act with attention to Sections 25, 26, 27 and 28
  • Supervise and oversee daily food safety activities, including shipping/receiving, storage.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety policies and procedures by all staff.
  • Train and coach employees on proper food handling techniques.
  • Take immediate action to address any food safety concerns or violations, including removing contaminated finished goods from warehouse.
Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Advanced level of experience in warehousing logistics, performance management and support services or quality assurance.
  • Strong Warehouse Management Systems and related systems technical skills.
  • Issue management skills including problem solving and trouble-shooting; information gathering including research, interpretation and analysis (i.e. client and system requirements, description of problems, etc.)
  • Managerial skills including selection, coaching and counselling associates, evaluating performance, team building, and administration and operational planning including budgeting and resource allocation.
  • Responsible for leading a high-performing team. Results-driven leader who can mentor and help grow direct reports is a must.
  • A strong proponent and behaviour-moudeler of Active Leadership. He Is approachable and visible in the warehouse daily and works in collaborative partnership with Operations Management at the site as well as develops good working relationships with Support departments and associates.
  • Needs to build relationships which foster respect, trust and open communication.
  • Communication skills (verbal, written, facilitation) including an ability to interact with all levels of the organization
  • Time management skills including an ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • This position requires confidentiality in dealing with client information, employee performance information and specific business objectives and financial information of the Company.
  • Available to work extra hours as required to address operational peaks and related challenges.
  • Works in a fast-paced environment within deadlines that are competing and unpredictable. Must ensure operational functions are effectively coordinated to ensure optimal efficiency.
  • Communications skills are important, involving professional discussions and meetings among key stakeholders.
  • Frequent requirement for attention to detail; prolonged use of computer terminal equipment.
  • Works in a typical warehouse environment with frequent/daily exposure to the warehouse-operating environment, temperature variations, under conditions of minor risk of injury and low physical effort.
