Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Manager, Operations provide overall management,
direction, planning, technical training and updating to all aspects of maintenance,
project management, snow making and day to day lift operations.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
Direct and control the activities of staff working the lifts to ensure all safety
procedures are followed. Establish methods to meet work schedules. Make
suggestions and implement improvements to work processes and procedures. As
required, assist in the day to day operations of the lifts and supervision of the
operators.
Assist with the recruitment of new and existing lift staff, oversee staff training
and monitor staff performance. Administer and grade lift exams. Prepare and
present yearly performance reviews outlining at a minimum, general
performance, for all department staff.
Maintain and promote staff morale through positive attitudes and social aspects
of the Snow Valley working environment.
As required, assist with the installation of fencing, signage, padding, etc. that
is required prior to the opening of the facility and removal after the closing
date.
Be actively involved in improving the operation of on hill equipment as
required.
Adhere to all operational and safety procedures – perform daily lift starts
checks and complete daily lift log and incident reports. Keep accurate
paperwork and checklists.
Keep Snow Valley current with the advances in the snow sports industry and
attend meetings where other industry colleagues will be present for the sharing
of ideas and information.
Maintain safety and emergency programs and take reasonable precautions to
minimize liability situations. Maintain Health & Safety program including
Certificate of Recognition, WCB case management, Disability Management
Program, Joint Health & Safety committee.

asked to assist other departments or you may draw upon help from other staff
members to help you achieve your goals. Through this type of environment, we
ensure Snow Valley is coherent and operated efficiently.
Perform other responsibilities when required as directed by the Operations
Manager.

SKILLS, INTERESTS, VALUES
Proven experience with a minimum of 5 years’ management position in either
construction, mechanical, related recreational venues, project management.
Have an outgoing, friendly personality and show a commitment to exceeding guest
expectations at all times.
Possess mechanical aptitude and sound repair practices.
General knowledge of plumbing, carpentry and electrical systems in order to perform all
necessary repairs to equipment and property.
Have a clear understanding of the operations of ski lifts and the regulations (Z-98 Code).
Complete Lift Operators Course through CWSAA.
Knowledgeable about the requirements of the Occupational Health & Safety Regulations
and Worker’s Compensation.
Stamina, flexibility and self-discipline to work long hours as required.
Well-developed interpersonal skills to deal effectively with a variety of people.
Ability to organize goals and define projects through analytic thinking, problem
solving and decision making skills.
Enthusiastic and engaged skier or snowboarder.
Organizational skills to handle the administration functions of the position.
Ability to remain composed when faced with unexpected problems and stressful
situations.
Ability to work in a fast-paced consumer driven environment and make responsible
decisions quickly.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe products.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Support Operations Manager with all aspects of management of the Department.

LEADERSHIP & STAFFING ACCOUNTABILITIES
Supervising staff as required in the operation of the lifts, hill, Rainbow Valley
Campground and attractions.

RISK MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTABILITIES
Ensure risk management of all events is followed by distributing material such as
Registration forms, Release of Liability forms, Photo Release Waiver, and all other
necessary documentation.

FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Under the direction of the Manager Operations, assist or lead as Project Supervisor
which may include contracting trades, contractors, and ensure all costs and
permits are in compliance with budgets and policies and procedures.

PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Develop working relationships and an information network with industry associates
and colleagues.

HEALTH & SAFETY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following and enforcing
organizational health and safety policies and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Exposure to changes in temperature from work both indoors and outdoors.
Approximately 75% of your time will be working outside and 25% indoors.
Expect to work mostly outside during inclement weather conditions.
Prep work will be both inside and outside.
The length of a working day may vary depending on how busy the area is or
deadlines that need to be met for a particular project.
May lift, push, pull or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Certificates in construction trades, millwright, or diploma or degree of a
recognized post-secondary institution. Equivalencies will be considered.
Minimum 2 years experience with passenger ropeways preferred.
2 years of supervisory experience; ideally supervising a large team (20 – 30 team
members).
Lift 150 train the trainer, Lift 151, 152 courses provided by SELKIRK College is an asset.
Previous operation of snowmobiles and/or ATVs an asset.
Ability to work outdoors and in all weather conditions.
Ski Resort Management certification is considered an asset.
Strong customer service skills; displaying empathy to guests’ needs.
Able to work in a high-paced environment as both an individual and team player.
Answering guests’ queries on the resort, giving recommendations for ski runs, and
providing general advice.
Intermediate Skiing/Snowboarding Skills, must be able to ski/ride green & blue runs.

HEALTH & SAFETY HAZARDS
This position involves some office-based work, combined with outdoor on-hill work.
Identified health and safety hazards associated with this position include
musculoskeletal strain from desk work, eye strain from computer work, strain from
lifting, falls, collisions with skiers and snowboarders, slipping, tripping and exposure
to extreme and varying temperature.

HOURS OF WORK
This position is fulltime position: minimum 35 to maximum 44 hours per week.
Work days will vary and may be on weekdays, weeknights, holidays, or weekends.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Operations Manager
Supervises: Operations staff as required.
