Job summary

Trench Canada in Pickering, ON is seeking an Operational Buyer with 2+ years in manufacturing procurement to ensure steady material flow. You will create and manage purchase orders in SAP, confirm supplier deliveries, and keep MRP data accurate to support production schedules.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, engineering, or related field.
  • 2+ years procurement experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • SAP experience is mandatory.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, BOMs, production planning, and MRP-driven procurement.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
  • Experience with Supplier Relationship Management, Inventory Optimization, Cost Analysis & Budgeting.

Responsibilities

  • Create, issue, and manage purchase orders in SAP for raw materials, components, consumables, and indirect goods and services.
  • Request, track, and document supplier order confirmations to ensure accuracy of quantities, prices, and delivery dates.
  • Update SAP and other procurement systems with delivery information, confirmations, and changes to maintain accurate MRP data.
  • Monitor MRP signals and take timely action on purchase requisitions, rescheduling messages, and exception alerts.
  • Follow up with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery and resolve issues related to delays, shortages, or discrepancies.
  • Collaborate closely with production planning, inventory control, warehouse, and logistics teams to support daily operational needs.
  • Coordinate with receiving teams to address delivery discrepancies, missing documentation, or quality issues.
  • Maintain strong communication with suppliers to ensure reliability, responsiveness, and adherence to agreed terms.
  • Support supplier performance monitoring by reporting issues related to OTD, quality, or responsiveness.
  • Assist in maintaining optimal inventory levels by preventing stockouts, reducing excess inventory, and supporting lean material flow.
  • Ensure compliance with internal procurement policies, procedures, and audit requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing errors, improving data accuracy, and optimizing procurement processes.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, lean thinking, and operational excellence across procurement functions.

Overview

As an Operational Buyer, you play a key role in ensuring the continuous flow of materials and services required for daily manufacturing operations. Your work is driven by MRP-based planning and requires accuracy, responsiveness, and strong coordination with suppliers and internal teams.

You will be responsible for creating and managing purchase orders in SAP, securing timely supplier confirmations, and maintaining accurate system data to support reliable MRP outputs. Requirements

  • Professional certifications (e.g., CIPS, CPSM, APICS) are highly desirable.
  • Minimum 2 years of procurement experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, BOMs, production planning, and MRP-driven procurement.
  • Previous SAP experience is mandatory; familiarity with other ERP systems is a plus.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.

In accordance with the Pay Transparency Act, we are committed to providing clear and accessible information about compensation for this role. The expected compensation range for this position is CAD $60,000 - $100,000 / Annually. Actual compensation within this range will be determined based on several job-related factors, including relevant education, depth and breadth of experience, professional certifications or license, specialized skills aligned with the role, and internal equity considerations.
