Job summary

Nelson Public Library in Nelson, BC is seeking an On-Call Public Services Assistant. You will answer circulation, directional and reference questions at the Service Desk and provide technological assistance.

Reporting to the Chief Librarian, you will represent the Library as an ambassador, work evenings and weekends as needed, and hold a Library Assistant I pay grade; start date October 1, 2026.

Qualifications

• Required: Library Technician qualification or equivalent.
• Two years of post-secondary education and equivalent experience.
• Significant library or other relevant work experience, including technology and customer service.
• Class 5 Driver's Licence and Driver's Abstract pulled annually.
• Strong communication and relation skills to create excellent visitor experience.
• Strong technology and instructional skills to support community technology needs and daily library tasks.
• Familiarity with current and popular fiction, non-fiction, audiovisual and digital content.
• Commitment to serving diverse community members including those with complex needs.
• Demonstrated strong organizational skills and initiative under pressure.
• Knowledge of antiracism, inclusion, accessibility and equity principles.

Responsibilities
