We are looking for a Nurse Practitioner to join a tight-knit collaborative group where you will be well supported carrying out this role. Work alongside physicians, surgeons and other health-care professionals focused on providing high-quality patient-focused service.
The Surrey Memorial Hospital Thoracic Surgery Team focuses on the management of both post operative surgical and medical care of the thoracic surgery patients. The Nurse Practitioner will provide comprehensive care for patients with Thoracic and Respiratory diseases as well as related co-morbid conditions in collaboration with the Thoracic Surgeons and other interdisciplinary health care team members. You will be part of a multidisciplinary care team committed to ensuring the best possible outcomes by collaborating on a comprehensive plan to effectively treat thoracic conditions. The NP role contributes to patient care through advanced NP clinical practice, education, consultation, research, leadership, and professional practice. During your residency, you’ll receive:
The NP will gradually be orientated to the Thoracic surgery program at SMH while they are completing their residencies.
Examples of in-house residency rotations: Internal Medicine, ICU, Cardiology, Emergency, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Surgery daycare, Palliative care etc.
Be part of our clinical enhancement program with regular in-house skills development such as suturing and x-ray interpretation in addition to receiving centralized NP orientation. You will be welcomed into a New Graduate NP Community of Practice team helping to support your successful transition into independent practice.

The Nurse Practitioner is responsible and accountable for the comprehensive assessment of patients/clients/residents including diagnosing diseases, disorders, and conditions. The Nurse Practitioner initiates treatment including health care management, therapeutic interventions and prescribes medications in accordance with the statutory and regulatory standards, limits, and conditions, and employer policies and procedures. The Nurse Practitioner provides professional guidance to other health professionals and practices autonomously and interdependently within the context of an interdisciplinary health care team, making referrals to specialist physicians and others as appropriate.
The position collaborates with patients/clients/residents and other health professionals to identify and assess trends and patterns that have implications for patients/clients/residents, families and communities; develops and implements population and evidence based strategies to improve health and participates in policy-making activities that influence health services and practices. The position participates in peer review and self review to evaluate the outcome of services at the patient/client/resident, community and population level.
Current practicing registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
Recent relevant clinical nursing experience.
