Alberta Health Services is currently seeking a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner who is passionate about caring for infants requiring specialized care within a large and diverse neonatal program. This role offers the chance to apply your clinical experience as part of a large NNP team at the Stollery Children’s Hospital Neonatal intensive care program, which operates across three sites: the University of Alberta Hospital, the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, and the Sturgeon Community Hospital in St. Albert, Alberta, Canada.
The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) provides specialized care and management of neonates, particularly those who are premature or ill, in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and intermediate care nurseries. This includes stabilization and management of ill infants born in community hospitals. The NNP has additional education and training to provide advanced clinical skills, make critical management decisions, and facilitate family-centered care as part of a multidisciplinary team. The NNP collaborates with program staff, physicians, and specialists to utilize best practices and evidence-based resources to optimize program delivery. They participate in committees, quality improvement initiatives, lead research, and provide education through outreach programs (ACORN, NRP) and workshops or simulations. The Edmonton zone NICU model ensures expert clinical services are available 24/7.
As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will deliver comprehensive health services across the lifespan, integrating nursing and medical skills to assess, diagnose, order and interpret tests, prescribe treatments, and perform procedures. You will also utilize advanced practice competencies in Practice, Leadership, Health Systems, Education, and Research to enhance care quality, promote appropriate health service use, and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Active or eligible for registration as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta with a practice permit indicating Child population (Neonatal) stream of practice. Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Provider certification.
Experience with clinical or scientific research. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with the development and/or implementation of evidence-based practice. Experience with program development.
