Reporting to the Program Manager, Calgary Pain Program, Alberta Health Services, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) works independently within their scope of practice to provide expert consultation as part of the Chronic Pain Consult Service (CPCS) team. The CPCS offers medication and pain management suggestions for patients with chronic non-cancer pain, acute-on-chronic pain, or developing into chronic pain, across four adult acute care sites in Calgary. The NP collaborates with a multidisciplinary team at the Chronic Pain Centre (CPC) at Richmond Road Diagnostic Treatment Centre, supporting family physicians and assisting clients in managing neuromusculoskeletal and headache pain. The role involves approximately 80-90% clinical assessment and management, with additional responsibilities including education sessions for students, staff, and patients, and contributing to research and leadership within the service.
The NP provides comprehensive health services across the lifespan, integrating nursing and medical skills to assess, diagnose, prescribe, and perform procedures. The role emphasizes enhancing care quality, optimizing health systems, and informing healthcare practices through advanced practice competencies. This position is unionized under the Alberta Union of Nurse Practitioners (AUNP).
