The Professional Practice Office is currently seeking a full-time, permanent Nurse Educator. Reporting to the Manager of Nursing, Interprofessional Practice and Education, and working collaboratively with the Clinical Program leadership team, you will play a key role in contributing to quality client care for CAMH clients.
The core functions of the role will focus on education of point-of-care staff and practice development. You will be responsible for advancing professional practice within clinical areas, including the inpatient Crisis Critical Care program, by developing high-performing interprofessional clinical teams. In collaboration with program leadership, unit managers, and advanced practice clinical leads, you will assess and develop clinical and leadership skills of point-of-care staff.
Key educational areas include scope of practice issues, interprofessional care planning, application of best practices at the point-of-care, and individual clinician and team development. You should have knowledge of best practices in teaching/learning for clinical staff, education development and delivery, especially in caring for adults with acute and complex mental illnesses and concurrent disorders.
You will support clinical staff in implementing education initiatives such as patient safety, clinical policies & procedures, use of I-CARE, and orientation of new employees. Additional responsibilities include staff recruitment, performance management, monitoring clinical quality improvement measures, program planning, and involvement in research and academic activities.
This position is based at 1001 Queen Street West and involves days, evenings, and weekend hours.
The successful candidate must be registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, possess a current BCLS (CPR) certificate, and have at least five years of experience in the mental health field. Experience with clients with severe mental health and addiction issues or forensic histories is an asset. A BN/BScN degree and computer literacy are required; an MN/MScN or relevant Master’s degree is preferred. Previous teaching experience and CNA certification in psychiatric/mental health nursing are assets. The candidate should demonstrate effective intervention skills in challenging clinical situations, decision-making, problem-solving, organization, and excellent communication skills. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in another language is an asset.
