The Professional Practice Office is seeking a full-time, permanent Nurse Educator. Reporting to the Manager of Nursing, Interprofessional Practice and Education, you will collaborate with the Clinical Program leadership team to contribute to quality client care at CAMH. Your core responsibilities will focus on educating point-of-care staff and practice development, aiming to advance professional practice within clinical areas, including the inpatient Crisis Critical Care program.
You will assess and develop clinical and leadership skills of staff in collaboration with program leadership, unit managers, and advanced practice clinical leads. Educational focus areas include scope of practice, interprofessional care planning, application of best practices, and team development. You should bring expertise in teaching/learning for clinical staff, education development, and care of adults with complex mental illnesses and concurrent disorders.
Your duties will also involve supporting clinical staff in implementing education initiatives such as patient safety, clinical policies, I-CARE usage, and orientation of new employees. Additional responsibilities include recruitment, staff performance management, monitoring clinical quality improvement measures, program planning, research/evaluation, and academic activities. You will promote a healthy, diverse, and team-oriented workplace environment. The position is based at 1001 Queen Street West and involves days, evenings, and weekend hours.
The ideal candidate must be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario, hold a current BCLS (CPR) certificate, and have at least five years of experience in mental health. Experience with clients with severe mental health and addiction issues or forensic histories is an asset. A BN/BScN degree and computer literacy are required; an MN/MScN or relevant Master’s degree is preferred. Previous teaching experience and CNA certification in psychiatric/mental health nursing are assets. The candidate should demonstrate effective clinical intervention, decision-making, problem-solving skills, organization, and communication skills. Bilingualism or proficiency in a second language is an asset.
