Job Overview

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Nuclear Safety Engineer.

Key Accountabilities
  • Perform safety analysis, including participation in multi-disciplinary projects and responsible for deciphering and managing the link between the design basis, safety analysis and operation of the station.
  • Working with deterministic safety analysis, including understanding and applying REG DOC 2.5.1, CSA standards, and COG documents related to these analyses and their linkage to the Safe Operating Envelope (SOE).
  • Manage and maintain the safe operating envelope, including the development, update and use of Operating Safety Requirements (OSRs), instrument uncertainty calculations, and compliance tables.
  • Oversee nuclear safety procurement processes, such as scoping out projects, overseeing vendor execution, and implementing safety analysis deliverables.
  • The position will involve contributing to the Accident Analysis section of the Safety report.
  • Use safety analysis codes, such as TUF, GOTHIC, or other thermal hydraulic codes, to support safety analysis efforts.
  • Provide technical evaluations and advice, solve problems and coordinate technical work as required, in a number of major work areas, in support of the commissioning, operation and maintenance of the facilities
Qualifications
  • 4 year Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Science or Engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience, preferably in a nuclear setting.
  • Advanced education (Master’s or Ph.D.) are considered as an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in Safe Operating Envelope (SOE), Thermal Hydraulic Analysis, Safety Report preparation, Heat Sinks Assessments, Operational Safety Reports (OSRs) is an asset for this position.
  • Knowledge to use GOTHIC or other thermal hydraulic software would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in managing regulatory and licensing issues within nuclear safety context.
  • Strong in understanding, executing and following governance and procedures with a questioning and analytical attitude/approach under minimum required supervision.
  • Experience and ability as a team player to understand and manage the interrelationships of various internal and external groups in order to facilitate objectives and ensure projects satisfy stakeholder requirements.
  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario (Engineering roles only)
